About Natural Dyeing Workshops & Training
Why We Dye
At Color Ashram, natural dyeing is more than a job. It's how we try to fix the mess in fashion and create something that's healthy for people and the planet. Honestly, it's tough work but worth it. Synthetic dyes do too much damage - we stick to colors that are kind to your skin and the earth.
How You Can Learn With Us
We’ve got something for everyone. If you’re curious, just starting out, or even a pro looking to upskill, you’ll find a spot here.
- If you just want to try it out, our short workshops on indigo dyeing and block printing are chill and hands-on. Perfect for a fun day, a quick experiment, or even if you’re traveling through Mysore.
- For serious artists and designers, our immersive botanical dye training and eco-printing classes go deep. These longer programs cover fiber science, our zero-toxin recipes, and advanced stuff like color chemistry and screen printing.
- Kids and families are totally welcome. We love showing little ones and homeschooling groups the fun side of natural colors with tie-dye and block printing.
The Space and Community
Our ashram is more than just a classroom. It’s a green space where people hang out, learn, and share ideas. There’s a shop, a café, and plenty of spots to just breathe. As one friend said, 'So ellarum intha idathukku vanthu paarunga' (Everyone should come and see this place).
What You'll Take Home
You’ll walk out with handmade fabric and real skills - eco-printing, indigo shibori, block printing, and more. We teach you the basics, but you’ll also get to try batik, upcycling, and hand painting.
Internships
If you’re thinking long-term, our internships give you actual experience working on live projects. We don’t take just anyone - you’ve got to be committed to sustainable textile education and willing to dive in.

My Story
Hey, we’re Color Ashram. Mysore called us in, and now it’s home. Started by me, Namrata, and Arun, this place is a mix of visual arts, theatre, dance, and a whole lot of heart. Sometimes you’ll find a Finnish grandma and a Dubai artist hanging out here, all ages, all stories. We’re not just a studio - we’re a space where hands get messy, ideas spark, and every day feels like a festival. We love connecting people to the earth, one color-stained palm at a time.
My Work
All Our Services - Natural dye training, eco-printing workshop, batik, indigo, playback theatre, studio memberships, internships, upcycled clothing service, custom design, DIY kits.
Open Makerspace - Anyone can join - homeschoolers, artists, hobbyists, travelers. Age, background, doesn’t matter. Just bring your energy.
Hands-On Learning - We forage, we grind, we stain our hands. It’s about learning by doing, and sometimes unlearning too.
Community & Collaboration - Talks, music, artist jams, ecological days. We connect local and global folks for real conversations and creative work.
Upcycling & Conscious Clothing - Got old clothes? We upcycle and re-dye. Plus, we make organic cotton yoga wear, naturally dyed and climate-friendly.
Innovation in Color - We’ve got one-step dyes, and we’re tinkering with microbial dye innovation. Always searching for easier, greener ways.
