Our Creative Sanctuary: The Makerspace
A shared workspace in Hebbal designed for artists, designers, and curious minds to explore natural dyeing and textile art with professional-grade equipment.
Here is a continued tour of our studio, showing our library, classroom, and the color lab where the magic happens. You can see our co-founder Arun and an intern, Amruta, working on her hand-painted collection.
Our space is a gallery of inspiration, filled with natural light, plants, and the beautiful work of our community. Here you can see a member block printing, surrounded by the textures and colors that make our ashram feel alive.
We recently celebrated our first anniversary in Mysore, a milestone made possible by the incredible community that has grown around us. Our space was filled with light, laughter, and creativity, reflecting the journey of the past year.
A glimpse into the heart of our makerspace. You can see our collection of wooden blocks for printing and fabrics drying in the sun, showcasing the hands-on, organic process of working with natural dyes.
About this collection
Whether you are looking for an ad-hoc session to finish a personal project or a monthly membership to build your own clothing line, our Hebbal makerspace provides the infrastructure you need. You will have full access to our industrial-grade stainless steel dye vats, 20ft padded block printing tables, and screen-printing beds. We handle the safety protocols and equipment maintenance, allowing you to focus entirely on experimenting with natural dyes and upcycling your textiles.
Our studio is built for those who want to move from learning to making. We understand the biggest hurdle in natural dyeing is often the lack of space and specialized equipment, so we have created a dedicated environment where you can work independently while being part of a vibrant community.
What You Can Access
- Color Lab: Equipped with heating systems for standardized natural dye applications.
- Printing Area: Large-scale tables for block printing, hand painting, and screen printing projects.
- Resources: We provide the gas, water, electricity, and drying areas. We also keep a wide array of wooden blocks and printing tools on-site for you to use.
- Networking: Our Live & Dye Cafe is the heart of the space, where you can grab chai, trade ideas with other designers, or find collaborators for your next project.
Your Path to Independence
If you are new to our facility, we start with a mandatory 6-hour induction. This ensures you know how to safely handle mordants, operate our heating systems, and follow our waste management protocols. Once you have cleared this safety orientation, you can choose between our pay-per-use slots for quick projects or our Monthly Pro Membership, which includes 36 hours of access and priority booking for specialty equipment. Whether you are experimenting with microbial dyes or perfecting a block printing technique, we are here to support your creative journey.
Color Ashram
We are Color Ashram, a community in Mysore that believes in bringing nature back into fashion. We built this makerspace in Hebbal so that you do not have to navigate the world of sustainable textiles alone. We are here to help you get your hands stained, share what we know, and turn your creative spark into something real.
