Our Vibrant Community: Stories and Connections
At Color Ashram, we believe that sustainable art is best created together. From local artisans to curious travelers, come meet the people driving the natural dye movement in Mysore.
It was heartwarming to host the artist and design team from the JLX brand. We love holding sessions for brands who want to explore natural dyes for commercial application and begin their transition to sustainable practices.
Some of the best moments here happen by chance. We love the serendipitous meetings between artists, educators, and eco-feminists that lead to new conversations, deeper understanding, and powerful collaborations.
We love taking our work out into the wider Mysore community. Here is one of our team members at the Cornucopia Carnival, sharing our passion for natural dyed clothing and accessories.
A quiet moment of connection over coffee at our Live & Dye Cafe. It's in these simple exchanges that ideas are sparked and friendships are formed, building the foundation of our creative community.
What happens when three generations of women connect over their shared passion for upcycling and natural dyes? A beautiful project is born. We invite everyone in Mysore to join us in these collaborative, multi-generational making sessions.
We were so happy to meet Prithy, an artist and architect who uses our natural dyes for her work on wood. Our brand sessions are all about finding a meeting point and providing real solutions for creators wanting to move away from toxic materials.
Pouring coffee and sharing ideas. This is the essence of our community, where we create a space for brave women to come together, share their sensibilities, and follow their creative light.
About this collection
Real community at our makerspace isn't just about showing up; it’s about those quiet, unscripted moments—over a cup of chai at our Live & Dye Cafe or while waiting for a dye vat to simmer. Whether you are a local artist, a traveler passing through, or simply curious about living more sustainably, our door is open. Drop by to see how we’re turning honest conversations into tangible, creative projects.
We have never been just a studio. When Arun and I started this space in the Hebbal Industrial Area, we wanted to build a place where the hands-on act of dyeing fabric was secondary to the connections we form while doing it. Our makerspace has become a convergence point for a diverse group of people—from Finnish grandmothers and international artists to local students and homegrown entrepreneurs.
Through our 'Humans of Color Ashram' series, we have spent the last five years documenting these encounters. We see people walk in with nothing but an intention to learn, and they leave as part of a collective that prioritizes planet-friendly choices. This is where you might find someone working on a screen printing project at one table, while another member is sourcing organic cotton for a new clothing line nearby.
We provide the equipment—the vats, the printing tables, the natural pastes—but the real value lies in the exchange. We share stories, debate the ethics of fast fashion, and celebrate the messy, imperfect beauty of natural dyes. If you are tired of working in isolation and want to be around people who are also trying to find a more mindful way to create, come spend an afternoon with us. You don't need a portfolio or a master plan to join; you just need to bring your energy.
Color Ashram
I’m Namrita, and along with Arun, I built this space because I believe we are stronger when we create together. We aren't just a studio; we are a home for anyone wanting to swap toxic processes for natural, meaningful ones. Come by, pull up a chair, and let’s share a conversation.
