Bridges to School Program for Early Childhood Development
School is more than just learning facts; it is about social connection and finding your unique place in the world. Our 12-week program helps children navigate these early years through gentle, expert-led guidance.
We are thrilled to announce our Bridges to School Program for 2025. This program is designed to support children as they navigate the early years of school, helping them build classroom readiness, self-awareness, and a love for learning.
Why does our Bridges to School Program matter? Because the early school years are about more than just academics. They are about finding your place, making friends, and building the confidence to explore the world.
Our 'Seedling' module, for ages 4-7, is for children just beginning their journey in group settings. We offer a gentle structure with themes from daily life, focusing on joy and feeling safe in a group through play and early peer interaction.
The 'Sapling' module is for children aged 5-8 who are ready for more structured social learning. It offers activities that build teamwork and problem-solving, helping them practice self-regulation and understand social boundaries.
In our 'Blooming' module for pre-teens aged 8 and up, we focus on exploring their place in the larger community. Children learn to understand self-identity, build flexible thinking, and connect with the community through hands-on experiences.
About Bridges to School Program
The Bridges to School Program is not a traditional pre-school setup. We use a 12-week 'mock classroom' environment to help children understand school rules—like raising hands and transitioning between activities—without the pressure of academic performance. Our focus is on fostering the self-regulation and emotional resilience children need to feel comfortable in any group setting.
A Therapeutic Approach to School Readiness
Transitioning to a classroom environment can be overwhelming for many children. Our Bridges to School Program is designed to bridge the gap between home and school by providing a safe, predictable, and engaging space. Every module is facilitated by trained clinicians—not volunteers—ensuring that your child’s emotional and sensory needs are met with expertise.
Our Age-Specific Modules
We divide our 12-week curriculum into three distinct tracks to meet children exactly where they are in their development:
- Seedling (Ages 4-7): For children just beginning group journeys. We focus on establishing gentle routines, play-based interaction, and themes from daily life to build a foundation of safety.
- Sapling (Ages 5-8): For those ready for more structure. This level emphasizes self-regulation, understanding social boundaries, and collaborative problem-solving through peer-to-peer activities.
- Blooming (Ages 8+): For pre-teens navigating the wider community. We work on flexible thinking, self-identity, and emotional regulation, helping children connect more meaningfully with the world around them.
Beyond the Classroom
What makes this program unique is how we simulate real-world scenarios. We include activities like 'market days' and supervised outings to local parks. These exercises allow children to practice transaction skills, conflict resolution, and navigation in a low-stakes environment. By the end of the 12 weeks, the goal is for children to have developed the confidence to participate in school life with greater ease and reduced anxiety.
Children First
We are Children First, a team dedicated to ensuring every child feels seen and supported. For over 16 years, we have moved away from standard therapy rooms to create spaces where kids can explore who they are while building the skills they need to navigate the world.
