Neck and Shoulder Rehabilitation
Are you dealing with persistent neck pain or shoulder stiffness? Whether it is 'tech neck' or a rotator cuff issue, I help you find the root cause of your discomfort using integrated physiotherapy and clinical Pilates.
Neck strengthening is vital for preventing pain. Here I demonstrate simple, effective exercises like weighted side bends to build stability in the cervical spine.
This video shows a chin tuck exercise, which targets the deep neck flexor muscles. These are key for supporting your head and maintaining good posture.
The cat cow pose is excellent for mobilizing the neck and upper back, releasing tension that often contributes to neck pain.
This standing neck exercise with a light dumbbell helps strengthen the muscles that stabilize the head and neck.
A demonstration of a neck rotation exercise with a light weight, designed to build strength and control through the full range of motion.
This anatomical diagram shows the cervical spine, highlighting the area we target with neck strengthening exercises to alleviate pain.
"Tech neck" or a Dowager's Hump is a postural issue I see frequently, even in young adults. This is often reversible with targeted exercises like the shoulder and pectoral stretches shown here, which help strengthen the upper back and correct forward head posture.
About this collection
I do not just treat the pain you feel; I look at the chain of movement that caused it. Whether your neck stiffness stems from a sedentary desk job or a shoulder blade imbalance, my initial assessment identifies the specific muscle weaknesses driving your symptoms, so we can correct your posture instead of just masking the pain.
Neck and shoulder pain often hides deeper mechanical issues. That 'tech neck' you feel is rarely just a tight muscle; it is usually a result of deep neck flexor weakness and poor thoracic mobility. My approach moves beyond basic massage or symptom management. I utilize Myofascial Release to address acute tissue tightness, but the real change happens with targeted strengthening. For example, if you have a winging scapula, standard pushing exercises often fail. We use specific serratus anterior activation to re-stabilize the shoulder blade. I combine this with manual therapy, such as dry needling or IASTM, to reduce inflammation, followed by controlled Pilates movements to build the stability your body is missing. This process is about rebuilding your functional movement patterns so the pain does not return. We address the root cause, whether it is postural strain, rotator cuff dysfunction, or ergonomic habits that need correction.
