My Martial Arts Journey: From Student to Coach

Martial arts isn't just about the belt; it's about the thousands of hours on the mat and the mentors who shaped my game. Here is a look at the path that led me to develop the ecological approach I bring to my classes today.

A significant moment in my jiu jitsu journey, receiving my Brown Belt. This milestone is a reflection of years of dedication to the ecological approach and my commitment to being both a student and a teacher of the art.

This text describes the moment I received my Brown Belt from my coaches who traveled from the USA. It was an honor to become the first Brown Belt under Joker Jiu Jitsu, and it reinforces the trust and support that defines our community.

Training with Coach Charly Alcayaga at Temple BJJ in Thailand. I am always seeking out opportunities to learn from other high level coaches to deepen my own understanding and improve the training I provide.

It was an honor to finally meet and learn from Priit Mihkelson, a pioneer whose work in the constraints led approach has heavily influenced my own coaching system. I believe continuous learning is essential, and I bring insights from the world's best back to my students.

As a coach and an athlete, I believe in leading from the front. The intensity you see here is the same focus I bring to every session, whether it's my own training or a private class with a beginner. A positive mindset and a commitment to pushing your limits are essential.

About this collection

I don't believe in secret techniques. When you look at my progression from trainee to Brown Belt under Joker Jiu Jitsu, you will see a recurring theme: constant, live experimentation. Whether I'm training at Temple BJJ in Thailand or dissecting movement mechanics with Priit Mihkelson, every step of my journey is aimed at one thing—making complex grappling concepts simpler and more effective for you to learn.

My journey isn't a straight line. It's built on a 7-year gap, a return to competition at ADCC Thailand, and a relentless search for better ways to teach and fight. When you see me on the mat, you're seeing the result of years spent stripping away the ego of traditional drills to focus on the ecological approach.

Why My Path Matters to Your Training

I’ve traveled to train with world-class mentors because I want to bring that level of intensity and understanding back to Bengaluru. When I earned my Brown Belt after a grueling 2.5-hour exam with coaches flying in from Idaho, it wasn't just a rank increase. It was validation that the constraints-led approach I use at Reign MMA actually works.

The Ecological Advantage

You won't find us doing static drills where you just repeat movements until you're bored. My experience as both an athlete and a student has taught me that real skill comes from live problem-solving. Whether we are working on striking mechanics, wrestling for MMA, or BJJ in the gi, we focus on:

  • Live Resistance: Learning how to handle an opponent who is actually trying to win.
  • Adaptive Movement: Understanding why a technique fails rather than just copying how it looks.
  • Concept-First Learning: Mastering the why so you can apply the what in any chaotic situation.

Whether you're looking for private coaching to fix specific holes in your game or joining our community, my goal is to pass on the lessons I’ve spent years gathering. Let’s get to work.
