Where Stories Come Alive
At Atta Galatta, books aren’t just stacked on shelves – they fill the space with life. For over a decade in Bengaluru, I’ve been more than a bookstore. Sometimes it’s all about the quiet, someone curled up with a novel. Other times, the place is buzzing – people chatting, ideas flying, laughter echoing during a book club or a workshop. Don’t need to dress up or pretend here. Just come as you are, no fuss.
What You’ll Find on the Shelves
- My heart’s in Indian language literature collection, especially Kannada books and stories from all over the country, in regional scripts and English.
- Poetry fans, you’ll love the curated poetry shelf – I’m the poetry festival partner for the Bengaluru Poetry Festival, so there’s always something rare.
- Loads for fiction lovers, history buffs, kids, teens, and those chasing a new sci-fi fix.
- Sometimes there are Mystery Bags – you pick one, and who knows what new author you’ll discover.
Events and Galatta
- Book club events Bangalore style – from general reading groups to women-only circles, these are open, chilled-out spaces.
- Workshops aren’t just for the “creative types.” Anyone can try Pen & Latte for writing or FUNKAAR for art, no need to be an expert.
- Author meet-and-greets, launches, Q&As – these happen a lot. Feels good to hear stories straight from the writers.
- Family-friendly reading space: kids’ events, storytelling, treasure hunts, theatre, and everyone’s welcome, even thatha, paati (grandpa, grandma).
The Space
Some say the place feels magical, with wooden bookshelves and cozy corners. Grab a coffee, lose yourself here for hours. There’s even a performance floor for bigger events. Whether you want silence or some galatta (fun commotion), you’ll find your spot.

My Story
Started as a bookstore, but I got itchy feet. Atta Galatta means a bit of chaos, and I love it that way. Not just books here, but stories being made—queer circles, tote-bag printing, paati-thatha tales, Chittara folk art, chai at the tea fest. I’m more about people meeting, sharing, and making a mess together. It’s community, not just commerce. That’s my thing.
