Restorative Yoga for Stress and Anxiety Relief
When you rush through life, your nervous system stays stuck in fight or flight mode. I use restorative techniques with bolsters and ropes to help you slow down, lower cortisol, and find true inner stillness.
How can healing begin if you don't recognize your triggers? I explain how awareness is the first step and demonstrate Paschimottanasana with bolster support. This pose helps shift the nervous system into a parasympathetic mode, bringing calmness.
The thought "What will people say?" is a major anxiety trap. I discuss how to break free from social pressure and demonstrate a supported Virasana. This pose is grounding, improves digestion, and settles the mind.
Less sleep often means more anxiety because it makes the amygdala in the brain hyperactive. A simple solution is Viparita Karani, or legs-up-the-wall pose, shown here with rope support. It calms the nervous system and improves sleep quality.
Stress from our daily lives creates mental disturbances, or *vikalpas*. A solution is supported Uttanasana, using a rope and block. Research shows this forward bend helps naturally reduce the stress hormone cortisol, calming the mind.
We don't just teach poses; we create a safe space for inner balance. Through guided stillness and the use of props, as seen in this supported Savasana, we help the body relax and the mind slow down for deep healing.
Restorative yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is crucial for hormonal balance in women. This supported pose helps reduce cortisol, improve mood, and regulate reproductive hormones, aiding both emotional and physical well-being.
"Feel the inner mind touching your entire body, even the remotest parts." This supported Supta Virasana (Reclining Hero Pose) allows for deep rest and introspection, helping you connect with the subtle sensations within.
Restorative poses like this supported Viparita Karani calm the nervous system by reducing muscle tension and regulating breath. By elevating the legs, we also improve circulation, bringing the body into a state of deep rest.
Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclining Bound Angle Pose) is a powerful tool for emotional release. The gentle opening of the hips can alleviate stress and anxiety, while deep breathing in the pose soothes the nervous system and promotes inner peace.
This is a bent-leg Savasana with the calves resting on a chair. This simple modification helps to release tension in the lower back and hips, making it an incredibly effective pose for deep relaxation and stress relief.
About Restorative Yoga for Stress & Anxiety
Most people try to fix anxiety by doing more, but in these sessions, we focus on being. I teach you how to set up supports like bolsters or wall ropes so your muscles can release tension without effort. This is not just relaxation. It is a mechanical signal to your nervous system to switch from high stress mode to rest and digest, which helps lower cortisol naturally.
Understanding the HPA Axis: Constant stress triggers the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, keeping stress hormones like cortisol high. My Restorative Yoga sessions in Sushant Lok are not about burning calories. They are about reversing this biological loop. By using props like wooden blocks, chairs, bolsters, and wall ropes, we support the body in positions that would otherwise require muscular engagement. When your body feels fully supported, the brain stops scanning for threats.
Why Props Matter: Without props, you might hold a pose with micro tension. With the right setup, you can hold a pose for 10 to 15 minutes, which is where the therapeutic effect happens. Whether we are practicing a supported Viparita Karani to improve circulation or using a chair for a modified Savasana, the goal is to calm the amygdala, the brain's alarm center.
Healing Through Consistency: We do not just jump into asanas. I look at your Aahar (diet), Vihaar (lifestyle), and Vichar (thought patterns) to see why you are feeling anxious. If you are dealing with chronic burnout or physical tightness from sitting at a desk all day, these sessions will help you find a sustainable way to quiet your mind. Classes are held in small groups, ensuring I can help you set up your props correctly. You will leave the studio feeling grounded, with a quieter nervous system and a clearer perspective.
