About Kirtan: Music of the Soul
Our Kirtan sessions are not performances, but open gatherings of the heart. Whether you are familiar with the melodies or hearing them for the first time, we provide simple song sheets so you can join in easily. The music, often led by Nayaswami Haridas on the harmonium, creates a sacred vibration that helps you transition from the noise of city life into a state of inner stillness.
A Practice of Devotion
Kirtan is a practice of Bhakti Yoga—the path of devotion. When we chant, we use the vibration of sound to bypass the thinking mind and settle into the heart. At Ananda Bangalore, our sessions are rooted in the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, where we primarily use his 'Cosmic Chants' to deepen our meditative state.
Why We Chant
Many of us come to these sessions after a long week of work. Bangalore city life can be demanding, and our Kirtan sessions offer a necessary sanctuary. By singing simple, repetitive melodies together, we create a collective energy that makes it much easier to let go of daily tensions. You do not need a trained voice or prior experience to join us; you only need a willingness to sit with us and participate.
Join Our Sangha
We host these sessions at our Halasuru center and periodically at our nature retreats. They are typically part of our larger satsangs, followed by a shared moment of silence and, occasionally, prasad. Whether you are a long-time meditator or simply curious about the yogic tradition, you are welcome to join. While we often have senior teachers like Nayaswami Haridas leading the melodies, the real power of the experience comes from the collective presence of our gurubhais coming together to seek truth.
Note: Please check our calendar for upcoming session timings. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early to settle in before the music begins.
Ananda Sangha
We are a community of gurubhais following the path of Paramhansa Yogananda. We believe that when we sing together, we don't just make music—we create a shared space where worries fall away and we can truly connect with the Divine.
