Kirtan and Mantra Therapy in Mumbai
Chanting isn't just about singing. It is a rhythmic, meditative tool I use to clear mental blockages and align breath with spirit. Whether we are focusing on breathwork or learning specific mantras for stress relief, this practice is about finding calm in the noise of the city.
The sacred sound of "Om" has profound benefits. In this video, I guide you through the chant, explaining how its vibrations can improve lung capacity, reduce stress, and align you with a higher consciousness. It is a fundamental tool for meditation and clarity.
This video offers a detailed look into my personal mantra meditation, a practice I have honed for 12 years. I demonstrate how to use japa beads and control your breath while chanting, sharing the sequence I use to prepare my mind for deep meditation.
Here is a simple kirtan session where I am singing the Hare Ram Hare Krishna mahamantra. This form of devotional singing is a valid and powerful yoga practice that calms the mind and opens the heart, just as much as any physical asana.
Singing in devotion to Radha and Govinda is another way I practice Bhakti Yoga. This kirtan is an expression of love and surrender. Music and devotion are powerful tools for spiritual connection and finding joy in the present moment.
The mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" is a powerful chant for liberation and peace. Here, I am singing it with my guitar, letting the sacred vibrations fill the space. This is a practice of devotion to the divine energy within all of us.
This bhajan, Achyutam Keshavam, reminds us to keep the divine in our thoughts as we go about our work. It is a beautiful melody that encourages constant remembrance and devotion, assuring us that we will eventually have a divine vision.
Music is a key element in my yoga and healing sessions. This graphic explains how different flute frequencies can help heal and balance the body's energy centers, or chakras, from grounding the root to activating the crown for spiritual clarity.
This text explains the roots of Kirtan within the yogic tradition. As described in the Yoga Sutras, it is a form of bhakti (devotion), jnana (wisdom), and mantra (sound) yoga, helping practitioners access a state of inner peace and connection.
About Devotion in Sound: Kirtan & Mantra
I don't teach these mantras as distant, holy rituals. I approach them as practical tools for your nervous system—syncing breath with sound to lower anxiety and clear your head. If you have been struggling with focus or persistent stress, we don't just chant; we work on the specific pronunciation and breath counts that help regulate your body's response, making these ancient techniques actually usable in your daily life.
Beyond the Sound: Why Mantra Therapy Works
Many people think of Kirtan as just devotional music. While that is the heart of it, there is a practical, almost mechanical side to sound that we often overlook. When you chant—whether it is a simple 'Om' or a complex Sanskrit mantra—you are manually stimulating your vagus nerve. This is the part of your body that dictates your 'rest and digest' state. My sessions are about teaching you how to use that mechanism to physically decompress from the chaos of Mumbai life.
How I Structure Our Sessions
We start with a 45-minute diagnostic session. We identify what feels blocked—be it anxiety, decision fatigue, or just a lack of clarity. I don't give you a blanket prescription. Instead, we look at:
- Breathwork Integration: How to sync your chanting with your lungs so you aren't just reciting words, but actually clearing your energy channels.
- Pronunciation & Intonation: Sanskrit sounds have specific frequencies. I help you get the intonation right so the vibration actually resonates where it should, whether it's for grounding (lower chakras) or clarity (upper chakras).
- The Practice Plan: You walk away with a 21 or 41-day routine, including audio guides for the specific mantras we choose, so you can maintain the practice independently.
Can I do this if I'm not religious?
Absolutely. You don't need to be a devotee to benefit from the frequency of sound. Think of it as sound therapy. My goal is to give you a tool you can use on your worst days to center yourself, regardless of your personal beliefs. We keep it real, judgment-free, and grounded in the present moment.
