Yoga is a science of freedom, not just a series of poses. We help you explore the ancient wisdom that makes your practice meaningful, practical, and truly transformative.

How does philosophy change your practice? This workshop is designed for curious practitioners and teachers who want to journey beyond asanas and understand the transformative power of inner inquiry.

If you are too close to a mountain, you cannot see its height. Similarly, if you get stuck in the performance of an asana, the plot of yoga is lost. We discuss moving beyond the physical experience to use yoga as a tool to understand who we are.

How does pranayama fit within the framework of Ashtanga yoga? We explore the foundations of the practice, explaining how balancing the body through asana prepares you to work with the subtle energy of the breath.

Yoga can be described as a process of purification. Through practice, we remove the colored films of our past experiences, allowing us to see life as it is. This is the essence of *Yogaś-citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ*.

Indian mythology is filled with rich stories that give context to our practices. Here, we share the fun story of how Hanuman, in his devotion to his guru Surya (the sun), is said to have created the poses of Surya Namaskara.

A practitioner often faces a dilemma: are the answers within, or in the scriptures? We explore this common challenge on the spiritual path and the importance of putting knowledge into practice to avoid stagnation.

Where did spiritual thought systems originate? We delve into the idea that the inherent fear of non-existence gives rise to desire, and the questioning of this desire led to the development of practices for self-refinement.

We explore the wisdom of women in yoga's history. This course delves into the life and revolutionary Vachanas (poems) of Akka Mahadevi, a 12th-century mystic from Karnataka who chose the path of *bhakti*.

We all share a common pool of energy. When we practice yoga, we regulate our own energy, and this positively affects those around us. We discuss how individual practice contributes to the well-being of the collective.

The theme 'One Earth, One Health' or *Vasudhaiva Kuṭumbakam* is central to our philosophy. We explain how creating harmony within yourself through practice is the first step to creating a chain of positive interactions in the world.

About The Philosophy of Yoga

Most people come to us focused solely on physical alignment, but we intentionally shift that focus toward inner inquiry. When you join our philosophy sessions, you are not just listening to a lecture. You are learning how to use your breath to manage daily stress and apply concepts like chitta-vritti-nirodha (the cessation of mind patterns) to your actual life, bringing a sense of svastha (balance) off the mat and into your home.

Stop treating yoga as mere performance. When you are too close to a mountain, you cannot see the forest. Similarly, getting stuck in the perfect geometry of an asana often makes you lose the plot of yoga. At Amrutha Bindu Yoga, we focus on moving beyond the physical to help you understand your own nature.

Why Philosophy Matters

Yoga is often marketed as a fitness regime, but its true roots are in self-inquiry. We explore foundational texts and concepts to make ancient wisdom relevant to your modern challenges. Whether it is understanding the source of your stress, navigating the sankalpa (intention) you set at the start of a class, or learning the connection between pranayama and energy regulation, our sessions give you a framework to live by.

How We Teach

We do not use cookie-cutter templates. We use stories, philosophical analogies, and open discussion to break down complex ideas. We explore topics like:

  • The Science of Freedom: Breaking down the Yoga Sutras to understand how to quiet the restless mind.
  • Mythology and Practice: We share stories—like the origin of Surya Namaskara—to give context to the physical movements you perform.
  • Energy and Community: We discuss sangha (community) and how individual practice contributes to a collective pool of energy.

If you have been practicing for years but feel like you are just going through the motions, our philosophy and theory sessions in JP Nagar will help you break that stagnation. We offer a space to ask the difficult questions and find answers that help you live with balance.
