Yoga in Nature: Grounding Your Practice Outdoors
Practicing under the open sky changes everything. We swap the studio mirrors for real trees and rooftops, helping you find your shanti (peace) by connecting directly with the elements.
This practice by the sea taught me that life's real joy isn't in fighting the storms, but in finding your calm center within them. Nature is the ultimate teacher of stability and peace.
Sun, stretch, and serenity. Practicing together on the rooftop, we soak up Vitamin D, enhance our mood, and connect with the energy of the outdoors.
Celebrating International Yoga Day by grounding ourselves with the earth and reaching for the sky. My heart is full of gratitude for this serene practice with my dedicated students.
Under the sky, we flow. Taking our practice to the rooftop during the beautiful Delhi monsoon season, connecting with the fresh air and the energy of the clouds.
Be proud, be confident, be you, with yoga. A large group session in the park, where we moved and breathed together in nature.
About Yoga in Nature
When we take our mats out of the studio and onto the grass, the whole energy shifts. Without mirrors to stare at, you stop judging your asanas and start feeling them. Whether we are chasing the sunrise for some Vitamin D or flowing under the monsoon clouds, these sessions are about grounding—literally putting your hands and feet on the earth to reset your system.
Why do we take our practice outdoors? In the studio, our focus is on alignment and breath, but in nature, it is about expansion. We practice in parks across North Delhi and on our terrace, using the natural environment to break the monotony of a closed space.
The Sensory Shift
The air, the sound of birds, and the shifting light act as natural anchors that force you to be present. It is the ultimate mindfulness training. When you are outside, you aren't just doing yoga; you are becoming part of the landscape.
The 'Yoga Gang' Vibe
These sessions are where our community really bonds. We often combine these with group circles, making it less about the individual workout and more about the collective energy. It is common to see students helping each other with a pose or sharing a laugh when the wind knocks a prop over.
Embracing the Elements
We lean into the Delhi weather rather than fighting it. We have done monsoon flows where the smell of wet earth helps us breathe deeper, and sunrise sessions that act as a natural mood lifter.
Practical Tips
- Gear: Bring your own mat if you are comfortable, though we have extras. Wear breathable, flexible clothing.
- Expectations: Nature isn't perfect, and that is the point. You might have a bug land on your mat or feel the uneven ground beneath your feet. Treat it as part of the practice.
- Location: We typically rotate between local Shalimar Bagh parks and our studio rooftop depending on the season and batch size.
Yog by Nikita
I am Nikita, and I started these outdoor sessions because sometimes the four walls of a studio aren't enough to contain your energy. We are a community of real people finding real balance, whether that is on a rooftop or in a local park. Come join us—no pretension, just breath, sweat, and a lot of smiles.
