Real wrestling isn't about brute force—it's about timing, level changes, and control. Learn how to take the fight to the ground on your terms with these fundamental takedown drills.

A classic double leg takedown. I teach you how to change levels, penetrate, and drive through to secure the position. It's all about timing and explosive entry.

Here's how to finish a single leg takedown by taking your opponent to the "tree top." By lifting the leg high, you destroy their balance and make the finish easy.

Your opponent sprawled on your double leg? No problem. I show you how to keep the grip, use a knee walk to recover your posture, and circle to finish the takedown.

From a body lock, it's all about getting your hips lower than your opponent's. Here, I demonstrate how to lift, turn, and secure a takedown into a dominant technical mount position.

The arm drag is a powerful tool to get past your opponent's defenses and take their back. We drill how to transition from a 50-50 clinch to a body lock and finish with a strong takedown.

The collar tie is a fundamental position for control. I teach you how to establish a dominant grip, use your opponent's pressure against them, and set up a snap down.

This is a detailed breakdown of a snap down from a collar tie. I show you how to control the head, bring the opponent down, and immediately transition to a dominant ground position with a chin strap.

A simple but effective takedown drill. We practice the fundamentals of level changing and driving through an opponent to get them to the mat.

Sometimes the opponent defends the takedown well. Here, I show how to use your leg to trip their thigh, breaking their base and completing the takedown.

This is a continuous arm drag drill. It builds muscle memory and teaches you how to flow and react to your opponent's pressure, constantly seeking a dominant angle.

About Wrestling for MMA: Takedowns & Control

Most guys gas out on the mats because they try to muscle their takedowns instead of using their legs. My training isn't about gym strength—it's about the technical entry. You'll learn to chain your single and double leg attacks with the right clinch control. If your technique is clean, you don't need to be the biggest guy in the room to finish the takedown.

Whether you are training for your first amateur bout or just trying to survive in the gym, your wrestling base dictates the pace of the fight. At Vajra MMA in Sector 72, Noida, we don't just mimic moves; we teach you how to set up your takedowns and keep your opponent guessing.

Why Technique Beats Strength

We prioritize Fight IQ over raw power. You will learn to:

  • Master the Entry: From a clean double leg to single leg variations, we drill the penetration step until it becomes muscle memory.
  • Control the Clinch: We use collar ties and arm drags to negate your opponent's striking and break their posture.
  • Chain Wrestling: When a takedown gets stuffed, you don't stop. You transition. We drill knee walks and head positioning so you never get caught in a sprawl.

The Training Environment

This is a raw facility designed for progress, not for show. We focus on the daily grind. My sessions cover:

  • Positional Sparring: We start from specific positions to build your instinct for escaping bad spots and maintaining control.
  • Live Scenarios: We mix standard wrestling drills with real MMA-specific cage scenarios, teaching you how to use the cage wall for support or defense.

Everything I teach is based on what actually works in the cage, not just in theory. You will learn to use your opponent’s forward pressure against them, turning their aggression into your leverage.
