Master MMA Takedowns: Wrestling Drills & Cage Control
Wrestling is the foundation of any real fight. We teach you how to control the pace, break your opponent's balance, and finish takedowns in the cage, not just on the mat.
It all starts with the stance and hand control. I teach you to always keep one hand down for defense while the other creates pressure. This fundamental principle, keeping your guard up, is the key to controlling the engagement.
Your first shot might fail. The key is to re-shoot without hesitation. I drill my fighters to stay low and chain their takedown attempts, because in a real fight, there are no shortcuts.
We blend striking with wrestling to create openings. Here, I demonstrate how to use a jab-cross combination to set up a body lock and transition seamlessly into an inside trip takedown.
A fight is a sequence of moves. Here, I break down how to transition from an over-under clinch, use knees and elbows to create an opening, and then attack the legs when the opponent reacts.
We focus on efficient technique, like this neck pull to takedown. It's about using your opponent's posture against them, pulling them down to create the angle for an easy finish.
On these mats, technique is the great equalizer. Watch as one of our female athletes uses leverage and timing to execute a perfect takedown on a larger training partner. This is proof that skill beats size.
Every day, we drill the fundamentals until they become instinct. This sequence shows a clean entry, level change, and finish, building the muscle memory required for high-pressure situations.
Under the watchful eye of our coaching staff, every athlete refines their takedown entries. We focus on perfecting footwork, timing, and body mechanics to make every shot effective.
Two warriors sharpening their tools. This is a live drill where Amit and Vedant work on takedown entries and defensive reactions, pushing each other to get better with every rep.
Listen to the sounds of a live drill. It's not just about power; it's about rhythm and flow. My instructions guide the fighters to connect their movements, from hand fighting to finishing the takedown.
About Takedown Masterclass: Drills & Techniques
Don't just memorize the movement; learn how to apply it under pressure. In these sessions, we don't care if your form looks perfect in the air. We focus on how your takedown holds up when someone is pushing back, resisting, and actively trying to scramble out. You will learn to chain your attacks because in a real fight, your first shot often fails.
Wrestling for MMA is a different game than collegiate or Olympic style. Here, the cage wall isn't a barrier; it's a weapon. We teach you how to pin your opponent, create space, and use the wall to set up your takedowns. We start with the absolute basics—balance, posture, and that crucial hand control. If you cannot maintain your posture, you cannot shoot.
We drill the fundamentals until they become muscle memory because when the adrenaline spikes in a live round, you won't have time to think. You will practice the single leg, double leg, and high crotch entries repeatedly. If you miss, you re-shoot. No shortcuts.
We also integrate striking into our wrestling. You will learn to use jab-cross combos to force your opponent to react, creating the opening you need to dive in. It is about rhythm, flow, and understanding why you are moving. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned fighter, you will find gaps in your game. We help you find them, and then we help you fix them. This is not a place to hide; it is a place to work.
