Advanced Asanas and My Yoga Journey
Yoga is a practice of 'Vivarta'—continuous transformation. See how I push physical and mental boundaries through my personal practice, finding balance on the mat and in the mountains.
Here I am in Hanumanasana (Monkey Pose) on the beach at dusk. Breaking the barriers of the body helps us become more flexible in the mind, allowing us to think and understand with greater clarity.
Just as waves come and go, so do our thoughts and feelings. Practicing a deep backbend like this in the ocean reminds me to find what is constant and unchanging within.
Your body has the ability to surprise you by breaking its own limitations. This advanced side stretch, performed on the rocks in Hampi, is a testament to what consistent practice can achieve.
Finding alignment in yoga is not about creating a perfect shape, but about arranging the body to create a clear channel for energy. Here, I am practicing a balancing pose that aligns the body from head to toe.
This is Rajakapotasana (King Pigeon Pose), a deep backbend that requires significant flexibility. It opens the heart and throat, activates the nervous system, and calms the mind.
Urdhva Mukha Veerabhadrasana. Looking at life from different perspectives helps us to understand and handle any situation. This pose physically embodies that change in perspective.
A variation of Samakonasana (Side Splits) practiced indoors. To achieve this, we work on hamstring and inner thigh flexibility, which improves the hip joints and overall physical structure.
Dandayamana Janushirasana (Standing Head-to-Knee Pose). This challenging balancing asana stretches the ankle muscles and builds immense focus and stability.
Samakonasana at the top of Savanadurga hill. This pose represents the peak of dedication and the beautiful union of yoga and nature.
A standing split variation in front of the Adiyogi statue. This practice is a form of devotion, connecting my physical efforts to the spiritual source of yoga.
About Advanced Asanas & My Practice
When I work on advanced poses like Hanumanasana or deep backbends, I focus on the 'why' as much as the 'how'. It isn't just about bending your body into a shape; it's about correcting your alignment and using breath to create space in your joints. Before you book a session, think about where your body feels stuck—whether it's tight hips or a stiff back—because that’s where we will begin our work together.
My personal practice is a constant exploration of what the body can achieve when the mind is calm. Advanced asanas, such as Rajakapotasana or balancing poses on the rocks at Hampi, are not meant for show. They are tools to test focus, stability, and patience.
In my classes in Nagarbhavi and Basavanagudi, I don't believe in forcing the body into a position. I break down these complex movements into smaller, safer steps. Whether you are practicing online from home or joining me for an in-studio session, my focus remains on individual progression. We look at hamstring and inner thigh flexibility for splits, and spinal alignment for backbends, ensuring your joints are protected at every stage.
I also strongly believe that yoga should not be confined to a four-walled studio. My treks, from the trails of Savanadurga to other natural landscapes, offer a different environment to practice. Nature teaches us to adapt. When you move your practice outdoors, you learn to balance not just on a mat, but with the uneven terrain beneath you, which translates into real-world stability.
Whether you are looking to master an inversion, reduce chronic pain, or simply want to understand the mechanics behind a perfect stretch, my approach is hands-on and personalized. We track your progress, modify sequences based on your body type, and ensure that your yoga practice truly leads to 'Vivarta'—a real, lasting transformation.
