Yoga with Props for Better Alignment and Strength
Props are not a crutch; they are a tool to make every pose work for your unique body. Whether you are working on flexibility or therapeutic recovery, I incorporate blocks, straps, and rings to help you show up better on the mat.
Props can make exercises more effective and accessible. In this video, I use a pilates ring for added resistance in a core exercise and yoga blocks to support my leg in a kneeling side stretch, allowing for better alignment.
A yoga strap is one of the most versatile props. Here, I am using it first to get a deeper, more supported hamstring stretch while lying down, and then to assist with alignment and engagement in Boat Pose (Navasana).
We can get creative with our props. This video shows how I use an aerial silk as a support to stabilize and deepen a kneeling side plank variation (Vasisthasana), adding a new dimension to a classic mat pose.
About Yoga with Props
Using props is about meeting your body where it is today. In my residential studio in Sector 61, we use these tools to refine your alignment and safely deepen stretches, making it easier to work on strength and mobility regardless of your current flexibility.
Many students think props are only for beginners, but they are essential for anyone wanting to get more out of their practice. I integrate them into our flow to help you gain more control and stability.
We use blocks to bring the floor closer in forward folds or side angles, which keeps your spine long and prevents rounding. Straps are my go-to for lengthening your reach in hamstring stretches and Boat Pose, ensuring you engage the right muscles rather than overstretching. For core work, we often use pilates rings to add resistance, which forces you to be more intentional with your movement.
Whether you are attending my Ashtanga-inspired sessions or coming in for therapeutic recovery to manage back pain, these tools help remove the frustration of not being flexible enough. My goal is to make sure you feel the work in the right places, not just get into the pose.
If you are based in or around Noida, I welcome you to join our small, personalized group sessions. We keep the batch size limited to 6 to 8 students, so I can provide the manual corrections and guidance needed to use these props effectively and safely.
