Pastel colors always win for a fun celebration! This tall cake with rainbow pastel stripes and swirls was made for a tenth birthday, giving off major unicorn and Taylor Swift fan vibes.
It's a personal win when I get to make all of a child's monthly birthday cakes. This colorful half-birthday cake with painted teardrops and fondant balloons celebrates the 18-month milestone in the cutest way.
About Kids & Themed Birthday Cakes
Most of the kids' cakes you see here are finished in rich ganache or smooth buttercream instead of heavy fondant. I find that kids prefer the taste of real chocolate and cream over sugar paste, plus it makes the cake much easier to slice and enjoy at parties.
When I started baking, I decided that fondant would not be my go-to. It can look good, but for me, a cake has to be eaten and enjoyed by everyone, not just photographed. Whether you want a jungle theme, a favourite cartoon character, or a specific hobby like Lego or Disney, I replicate these looks using piped buttercream and hand-crafted ganache details.
Why No Fondant?
My priority is taste. I use rich Belgian chocolate and my own 'jugaad ganache' to get sharp edges and deep flavour without the cloying sweetness of fondant. It is a win for the kids because the cake is soft and creamy, and a win for parents who want a clean, delicious centrepiece.
Safety and Customisation
Every cake I bake in my Prabhadevi studio is 100% eggless. If you have a specific theme in mind, tell me what your child is obsessed with right now. Is it a dinosaur, a specific colour, or a monthly milestone? I love the challenge of translating those ideas into cake.
Planning Your Order
Planning for a party can be stressful. My process starts with a design consultation where we decide on the flavour and the theme. Because everything is custom-made and prepared from scratch, I do need lead time to get the details right. Last-minute, large-scale cake orders are generally not possible, so let’s talk at least a week before your event to ensure we can secure your slot.
The Next Door Baker
I’ve spent almost a decade turning childhood obsessions into edible art. I don’t just bake a cake; I want to create the highlight of your child's celebration that tastes as good as it looks.
