Tennis Fitness Training for Explosive Court Movement
You do not play tennis to get fit; you have to be fit to play tennis. My approach builds the raw power and footwork you need to compete and win, whether you are at our Santacruz or Matunga facility.
For adult players looking to level up, the answer isn't always more hitting. It's tennis specific fitness. I explain why working on your body with compound exercises is the fastest way to improve your game, especially when you have to unlearn years of non athletic movement.
About this collection
If you have been chasing a tennis ball for years without seeing your game improve, stop blaming your forehand technique. You are likely fighting against decades of non-athletic movement habits. In these sessions, we do not run marathons; we fix your kinetic chain with explosive leg drills and resistance training so your body actually allows you to execute the shots you are aiming for.
Why General Cardio Fails on Court
Most recreational players think fitness means jogging or hitting the gym for hours. That is wrong. Tennis requires sudden bursts of speed, rapid direction changes, and the ability to maintain balance while swinging. If you train like a marathon runner, you will move like one on the court.
The Tennace Approach
We focus on tennis-specific physical conditioning. Our sessions at Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana and Don Bosco Academy are designed to rebuild your movement patterns from the ground up:
- Agility & Footwork: We use ladder drills and shadow shuffling to reduce your reaction time. You will learn to split-step and recover faster.
- Kinetic Chain Correction: We identify where your body is breaking down during a stroke. Often, the power is not coming from your arm; it is coming from your hips and legs. We train you to engage these muscles properly.
- Resistance & Power: Using bands and compound movements, we build the explosive strength needed for that 'phatka' (big whack) on the ball.
Unlearning Old Habits
If you started tennis as an adult, your body is not as malleable as an eight-year-old's. You have thirty years of muscle memory that might be holding you back. We actively work on 'unlearning' stiff, defensive movements so you can develop an aggressive, natural playing style.
What to Expect
These sessions are intense. You will sweat, you will be challenged, and you will get stronger. We accommodate Mumbai’s unpredictable weather by switching to indoor fitness drills when the courts are wet, so your training consistency never drops.
