Music is a conversation. These moments capture the camaraderie and the shared rhythm that happen when artists come together to create something honest and beautiful.

About My Musical Family: Backstage & Beyond

Before any show, my process involves a deep conversation with fellow artists to understand their rhythm and tempo. Whether we are planning a complex jugalbandi or a subtle vocal accompaniment, this pre-show alignment is what makes the final performance feel seamless to the audience. I prioritize this chemistry because when the artists are in sync, the music flows naturally for everyone in the room.

The magic of a performance is rarely a solo effort. It is built in the shared moments before we step onto the stage, during the rehearsals at dawn, and even in the quiet chats after a concert at venues like the NMACC or Taj Bengal. When I perform, whether it is for a large corporate gathering or an intimate home Baithak, I look for that same energy of connection.

Why Collaboration Matters

In the world of Indian classical music, the relationship between the Tabla player and the melody artist is paramount. My style, rooted in the Farukhabad Gharana, is built to be a canvas. I do not just keep time; I listen to the vocalist or the instrumentalist. If they push the tempo, I support it. If they slow down for a delicate thumri, I match that sensitivity. This adaptability is what makes a jugalbandi feel like a genuine dialogue rather than two people playing separately.

My Approach to Your Event

When you hire me for your event, you get more than just a Tabla player. You get an artist who understands how to hold the room's energy. I am comfortable with:

  • Classical Jugalbandi: Pairing with sitar, sarod, violin, or santoor players for high-energy conversations.
  • Vocal Accompaniment: Providing a steady, expressive foundation for Khayal or devotional singing.
  • Kathak Dance Synergy: Syncing with the intricate footwork and bols of a dancer, which requires sharp reflexes and deep rhythmic awareness.

If you are planning an event, think about the atmosphere you want to create. Do you need the meditative focus of a solo recital, or the dynamic interplay of a collaborative set? Let’s talk about your vision, and we can figure out the right setup to bring that music to life for your guests.

I am a Tabla player rooted in the Farukhabad Gharana, but my favourite moments are the ones spent creating music with others. I believe every performance is a shared conversation, where trust and rhythm come together to create something beautiful for your guests.
