About Upcoming Events & Announcements
We run our public community circles on a gift economy principle. You just show up, play with us using our provided djembes, and at the end of the session, you decide what to contribute based on what the experience meant to you. There is no set fee for the circle part, just a commitment to share your energy and connect with the group.
How Our Sessions Work
Most of our public events follow a two-part flow. We often start with an Intro Djembe Workshop where you can learn basic traditional West African rhythms, followed by the Community Drum Circle. You are welcome to join both or just drop in for the circle.
Why Join Us
These sessions are designed for absolute beginners. We provide the drums, so you don't need to own an instrument or have any prior musical training. If you have a heartbeat, you have rhythm. We gather at spaces like Pune Handmade Papers, which offer a great atmosphere to let go of the week's stress, meet new people, and engage in something different.
What to Expect
- No Performance Pressure: This is not a concert or a class where you are graded. It is a space for recreational drumming and self-expression.
- Inclusive Atmosphere: Whether you are 8 or 80, you will find a place in the circle. It is a non-judgmental space to experiment, groove, and find your 'Wassa Wassa' (joy).
- Community Connection: Many of our regulars come to de-stress, but they stay for the community. We have seen total strangers bond over a simple beat and walk away as friends.
Important Details
We typically announce new dates a few weeks in advance. Since space is limited and we provide instruments for everyone, please reach out to us via WhatsApp or DM with your name and the number of people attending so we can keep a drum ready for you.
