Movement is Medicine: Yoga and Functional Fitness
Yoga is my foundation, but it is not the only thing that keeps me moving. From running and lifting weights to climbing, I embrace movement in every form. Here is how I combine these practices to stay strong, balanced, and injury-free.
Being a yoga teacher doesn't mean I only do yoga. I run, swim, lift weights, and cycle. Each movement teaches me something yoga alone cannot, and together they keep my body balanced and strong.
Here are the stretches I do before running. My love for running started during COVID, and it reminds me of what it feels like to fly.
It gets easier when you realize movement is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you ate. You just have to keep moving.
Something beats nothing. Even on days I don't feel like a full practice, I make sure to move my body, whether it's at the gym or on the mat.
Normalizing yoga at the airport. Long layovers are the perfect opportunity to stretch out and move your body.
About Movement is Medicine
I do not just teach yoga, I practice it alongside HIIT, running, and climbing to keep my body resilient. Yoga gives me the awareness to listen to my joints, while strength training gives me the power to handle daily life. If you have been struggling with recurring injuries or just feel stiff despite working out, this combination of mobility and intensity might be exactly what your routine is missing.
Why do I insist on moving beyond the yoga mat? Because life demands more than just flexibility. When I started, I realized that relying solely on one form of exercise often led to imbalances. My approach to movement combines the mental clarity and structural alignment of Hatha Yoga with the cardiovascular health of running and the functional strength of HIIT.
The Science of Balance
Think of it as 'pre-hab'. Before I go for a run, I do specific hip and knee rotations. Before I lift, I use yoga to open up my shoulders and chest. This isn't about doing everything at once. It is about understanding what your body needs on any given day. Some days, my body needs the stillness of Pranayama. Other days, it needs the intensity of a heavy lifting session to release stress.
Why This Works for You
Many of my clients in Delhi NCR come to me feeling stuck—not just in their lives, but in their fitness routines. They feel tight, they have back pain, or they simply get bored. By integrating these different modalities, we address those issues.
- Yoga: For recovery, breath control, and mental stability.
- Strength Training: To build the muscle mass that prevents injury.
- Functional Movement: To make sure you can move effortlessly in your daily life.
If you are ready to stop punishing your body and start celebrating it, let's talk. We don't need a fancy gym or expensive equipment. We just need to start. Yoga karo nahi toh haddiyan jaam ho jaegi!
Swati
I wasn't born zen, and I definitely didn't start off loving every type of movement. I learned that my body needed more than just a mat to feel truly alive and capable. Now, I help people stop chasing perfect Instagram poses and start building a body that actually works for them, every single day.
