Finding Your Voice with Swarmaanas
I teach singing to those who were told they can't. Whether you're a bathroom singer or just looking for joy, my Anybody Can Sing philosophy is all about expression, not perfection.
People often ask why I started Swarmaanas. In this mega-episode of my series, I share my personal story, the comparisons I faced, and why I decided to create a space where everyone, especially those who feel they are not good enough, can learn to sing.
Singing with 'bhaav' or emotion is more important than hitting every note perfectly. I explain my approach to expressive singing, voice modulation, and how music acts as a therapy to bring out your true feelings and make you feel aanandi (joyful).
For over 21 years, my mission has been to change the concept of singing. This is a quick look at me, the founder of Swarmaanas, and my simple belief that if you have a voice, you can sing.
Many people are hesitant to join a workshop. Here, I explain what a music workshop truly is: a chance to experience my teaching style, learn key techniques, and gain confidence in a short time, with no pressure.
A little about my background. I am the daughter of playback singer Smt. Uttara Kelkar and was mentored by music director Shri. Ashok Patki. My training in music, dance, and counselling all come together in my teaching.
This explains the mission of Swarmaanas. For over two decades, we have been spreading happiness through music, training over 1000 students from 3 to 80 years old with our "Anybody Can Sing" philosophy.
Swarmaanas is a preferred destination for all music lovers and amateurs. We believe in enjoying music more than focusing on its technicalities, which is why we are sure that you can sing.
We have been spreading joy through music for the past 21 years. We welcome people across all age groups, occupations, and languages, and have now expanded with online batches to reach music lovers everywhere.
We offer a variety of services to fit your needs, including online and offline classes, personal singing sessions, weekend workshops, and music therapy. Registration is mandatory for all our programs.
About My Philosophy: Anybody Can Sing
If you've ever stopped singing because someone told you your voice wasn't good enough, you are exactly who I work with. In my classes, we don't start with complex classical scales. We start with breathing, simple expression, and finding the joy in your own unique sound. Whether you are one of my "35% wale" students—the ones who think they can't sing—or just looking to relax after a long day, my job is to give you the confidence to sing out loud without the fear of judgment.
Singing is about how you express your soul, not just your sound. At Swarmaanas, I have spent the last 21 years helping people realize that their voice is valid, regardless of its range or quality.
Why Expression Matters More Than Perfection
Many of my students come to me worried about hitting every note perfectly. But if you are singing in front of your friends or family, they do not care if you hit a high note like a professional singer. They care about the emotion, or 'bhaav', you bring to the song. When you sing with 'bhaav', you connect with the audience, and small imperfections in pitch fade into the background.
Practical Techniques for Beginners
We focus on three main areas to get you stage-ready:
- Conscious Breathing: Most strain in the throat comes from incorrect breathing. We teach you how to breathe from the diaphragm, which not only improves your resonance but also keeps your voice fresh for longer sessions.
- Voice Modulation: We teach you how to shift your tone to tell a story through the song.
- Confidence Training: Through techniques like making eye contact while singing, we remove the fear of performing in front of others.
Singing as Therapy
I often see students who carry stress release it completely through music. Whether you are looking to join our weekend workshops in Mumbai or Pune, or prefer our online hobby batches, the goal remains the same: to make you feel 'aanandi' (joyful). We do not conduct traditional exams. Instead, we prepare you for life's exams by giving you the confidence to express yourself.
If you have a voice, you can sing. Join us, and let's make music together.
Swarmaanas
I am Manasi, and I founded Swarmaanas because I believe music belongs to everyone. Growing up, I was often compared to my mother, Uttara Kelkar, and told my own voice had limitations, but my guru taught me that singing is about how you express your soul, not just your sound. Now, I help people find their own unique voice, teaching them to sing from the heart, purely for the joy of it.
