My Pottery Journey and Teaching Experience
A look into the kiln, the classroom, and the moments that shape my ceramics practice. Here is where the clay journey began.
With my team and family at the exhibition opening of my sculpture, the Navrasa Stambh. Art is wonderful online, but sharing the energy of a piece in reality is a special experience. I'm so grateful for the support.
A moment from an exhibition in China. Traveling and sharing my work internationally has been a huge part of my learning process, and I bring those experiences back to the studio.
A glimpse from my teaching days at IDC, IIT Mumbai. This is a gas kiln firing, a process that requires patience and a deep understanding of heat and atmosphere. Sharing this knowledge is a privilege.
Looking through the peephole of a kiln as it glows hot inside. Whether it's a manual gas kiln or an automatic electric one, I still find myself sitting with it, feeling the heat rise. It’s a connection to the transformation happening within.
About My Work & Teaching Journey
Teaching isn't just about technique, it is about holding space for that moment when a student finally understands the 'why' behind the clay. Whether we are firing a gas kiln or wedging clay, I am there, hands-on, because the best way to learn is to experience the heat and the mess alongside someone who has been through it all.
My path with clay began in 2004, and it has been a continuous process of learning, failing, and growing. Over the years, I have had the privilege of training under wonderful mentors like Ray and Satpurananda, and sharing that knowledge at institutions like IDC, IIT Mumbai, and V.E.S. has been a massive part of my own development.
Why the Studio Process Matters
Many people see the finished ceramic piece, but the real story is in the process. From the quiet focus of throwing on the wheel to the intensity of a gas kiln firing, every step is a lesson. When we work with clay, we are observing with all our senses. My studio, Studio Karva, was built to be a space for this kind of connection—a place where the community thrives on chatter, laughter, and the inevitable mess of creating.
Learning Together
I believe in teaching through experience. Whether you are looking for advanced pottery classes in Mumbai or just want a space to practice, my approach is practical and rooted in reality. We don't just teach the 'how-to'; we navigate the ups and downs of ceramics together.
- Mentorship: I share what I have gathered from years of experience in both wood and gas firing.
- Community: We are a group of 'Clay Folk' who understand that failures are just as important as the successes.
- Adaptability: My studio is shifting to Deonar, bringing new equipment, including a new electric kiln, to support your growth.
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned potter, my goal is to walk with you on this journey. Bahot shukriya for being part of this space.
