This is where it all begins. The feeling of centering the clay on the wheel is a lesson in centering yourself. It’s a quiet conversation between your hands and the earth, a moment of pure focus that we cherish in the studio.
If you're looking for a creative home in Mumbai to continue your pottery journey, our membership is for you. Here, you get the space, tools, and time to practice, experiment, and grow at your own pace.
The best moment is opening the kiln to see what magic has happened inside. Here’s a look at some beautiful creations fresh from a student firing. Each piece tells a story of patience and discovery.
Whether you're shaping clay by hand or throwing on the wheel, there are moments when you get completely lost in the act of creating. We are so fortunate to have this space to experience that connection and quiet joy together.
A well planned kiln is a skill learned over many years. This is a look inside our gas kiln, carefully loaded with student work before a firing. On Guru Purnima, I am filled with gratitude for all my mentors who taught me this meticulous craft.
Sharing and learning is at the heart of our community. During our Open Studio days, we gather to review everyone's work, discuss what we’ve learned, and celebrate the progress we've made together.
Our studio is more than just a place to work with clay; it’s a space for connection. This was a beautiful morning during our Open Studio, filled with conversations and the soothing sounds of a live handpan performance.
Welcome to our new studio space in Govandi. I wanted to create a place that feels open, calm, and full of light. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. We can't wait to welcome you here.
About Featured
Joining our studio isn't just about renting a wheel; it's about finding a rhythm. Whether you are working on a quiet weekday or dropping by during a busy weekend, you will be sharing the space with fellow clay enthusiasts. Our layout allows you to move from your assigned shelf to the throwing wheels or hand-building tables fluidly, with plenty of room to let your work dry safely before it heads to our gas or electric kilns.
A Space Designed for Growth
At Studio Karva, we believe the best pottery happens when you aren't rushing. We designed our Govandi industrial loft space to be exactly that—a place to slow down. Whether you choose our Hobbyist membership for weekend practice or the Resident Artist plan for unlimited access, you get more than just floor space.
The Essentials
- Wheels & Tables: We have a mix of electric Shimpo wheels and manual kick wheels available on a first-come basis, plus large canvas-covered tables for hand-building projects.
- Kiln Access: We take the stress out of firing. Whether you need an electric kiln or the rare gas reduction firing that our Resident Artists enjoy, we manage the technical heavy lifting so you can focus on the form.
- Storage: Every member gets dedicated shelving to store tools and greenware, so you don't have to carry your work back and forth.
More Than a Workspace
This is a community, not a silent library. You will find people here at all stages of their journey, from beginners learning to center clay to experienced potters working on large-scale sculptures. We host regular open studio days, community gatherings, and even impromptu tea breaks. If you have been looking for a place where you can mess up, learn, and grow alongside other makers, you have found it. I am always around for a chat about technique or just to share a chai, and we truly believe that the failures are just as important as the successes.
