Everyday Handmade Ceramics for Your Home
Pieces meant to be held and used daily. High-fired stoneware that is as durable as it is soulful, crafted right here in our Mumbai studio.
A set of three multi-purpose bowls, perfect for tea, snacks, or dips. Each bowl shows unique characteristics from being gas-fired and then re-fired in a wood kiln, creating beautiful, layered glazes.
A handmade stoneware side plate with a unique spiral pattern, perfect for snacks or as a coaster. The glaze was developed over several months at the studio, and its color varies with each application.
Another variation of our handmade side plate, this one showing a beautiful turquoise swirl. The interaction between our custom glazes and different clay bodies creates these happy accidents.
A set of four handmade plates, versatile enough to be used for cookies, desserts, or as coasters. These were thrown and glazed by our studio team, making each one a collaborative effort.
A close-up stack of our handmade stoneware plates. You can see the texture and subtle variations that make each piece unique. They are high-fired for durability in your everyday life.
A short tour of the studio shelves, filled with a variety of handmade functional and sculptural ceramics. You can see bowls, planters, and other unique pieces from different atmospheric firings like wood, gas, and electric.
About Everyday Ceramics for Your Home
Because every piece is thrown or hand-built by us, slight variations in glaze and shape aren't flaws, they are proof of the process. Whether it is a morning coffee in one of our stoneware mugs or a quiet dinner on our plates, these are designed for the reality of your daily life: microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, and meant for constant use.
The Soul of Studio Karva
We don't aim for factory-perfect uniformity because we believe the energy of the studio is what makes a piece special. Every mug, bowl, and plate reflects a moment of focus, a bit of laughter, or a 'happy accident' during the firing process. When you bring these into your home, you are bringing in a piece of that journey.
Why High-Fired Stoneware?
There is a difference between decorative pottery and functional pottery. We fire our stoneware and porcelain-mix clay to over 1200°C. This ensures the clay body is fully vitrified and non-porous. In plain terms, it means your mugs won't stain and your dinnerware is robust enough for your everyday rituals. They are tough enough for the dishwasher and microwave, so please, use them every single day.
Our Process
From the moment clay hits the wheel to the final glaze application, everything is done by hand. We formulate our own glazes, resulting in those deep, earthy, and reactive tones you see in the gallery. Because of the nature of wood, gas, and electric firings, every batch is slightly distinct.
Visit Us in Mumbai
If you want to see how these pieces feel in your hand, you are welcome to visit our studio in Govandi East. We often have open studio days where you can browse the shelves, see what is currently out of the kiln, and pick out pieces that speak to you. It is a space for shared growth, and we would love to have you drop by for a visit.
