About The Finished Masterpieces: Student Gallery
Creating something with clay is a journey, not just a one-off session. Every piece you see here spent a few weeks drying, getting bisque-fired, being hand-glazed, and going through a second high-temperature bake to become the food-safe ceramic you can actually use at home.
People often ask me if they really get to take their creations home. The answer is yes, but it is a slow process. After you finish molding your mug or bowl, the piece needs to dry completely, which is critical to prevent it from cracking in the kiln. Then, it goes into the kiln for the first firing (bisque), where it hardens into ceramic.
After that, we apply the glaze you choose, and it goes back in for a second firing. This entire process takes about 2 to 3 weeks. It is a slow craft, but there is no feeling like holding a mug you built from a lump of clay and drinking your morning chai from it. In this gallery, you are seeing the result of that patience. Whether it is the swirling patterns of a Japanese Nerikomi bowl or the detailed carvings on a sgraffito plate, these are functional art pieces made by people who started as absolute beginners, just like you. My goal is for you to walk away with something that lasts, carrying the memory of the session with it.
Studio Hands inClay
Hey, I'm Aparnaa. My studio, Hands inClay, is really just a balcony in Ghatkopar where we let go of perfection and embrace the mess. I love seeing the look on a student's face when they pick up their finished piece—it is pure magic.
