A glimpse into the world of Studio Karva, where clay becomes a form of meditation and everyday art.

This piece, 'Cosmic Temple', explores the body as a gateway to the expanse within. It is hand-built from paperclay terracotta, intricately carved to represent the flow of energy, and stands as a testament to months of patient work.

This handmade tea bowl shows the beautiful layers a glaze can build after being fired first in a gas kiln and then again in a wood firing. I call these my 'multi-purpose lovelies', perfect for your daily chai or snacks.

The process of learning on the wheel involves both making and breaking. This close-up shows the intense focus required to shape the clay, and the acceptance needed when a form doesn't work out. It's all part of the journey.

A small family of custom planters I made for a client. Each one is hand-sculpted with its own peaceful expression, designed to bring a little bit of calm and nature into your home.

Standing beside my 'Navrasa Stambh' sculpture with a dear friend and mentor. It was a joy to share this moment at the exhibition opening, surrounded by the community that makes this work possible.

These mugs are a classic design I learned during my student days. While my style has evolved, I still love recreating these forms, as each artist brings their own unique touch to a shared tradition.

A glimpse from one of our Open Studio mornings, filled with conversations, community, and the soulful sounds of a live handpan performance. This is the warm, welcoming energy we cultivate at Studio Karva.

A handmade stoneware plate with a rustic, earthy glaze. The spiral pattern is a signature of my thrown work, and the unique glaze variations mean no two plates are ever the same.

About Featured

Each piece you see here, from the functional stoneware mugs to the hand-sculpted planters, is fired to over 1200°C. You will notice slight variations in the glazes or the throwing lines on these items. These are not flaws but the signature of a human process where every piece is shaped individually, never from a mold, ensuring that what you take home is truly one of a kind.

Behind the Process

Every creation at the studio begins as a simple lump of clay. Whether I am throwing on the wheel or using coiling and carving techniques, the focus is on letting the material guide the form. We mix our own glazes and experiment with firing techniques, from electric and gas kilns to wood firing, which creates those beautiful, unpredictable layers you see on the surface.

Functional vs. Sculptural

I make two distinct types of work. First, there are the everyday ceramics—mugs, bowls, and plates designed for daily rituals. These are high-fired stoneware, meaning they are sturdy, non-porous, and perfectly safe for your microwave and dishwasher. Second, there are my sculptural forms. These are intuitive, hand-built pieces like face planters and statement vases that hold a different energy. These are intended for your home as decor, carrying the marks and textures of the clay itself.

A Community Space in Mumbai

Studio Karva is located in Govandi East and is more than just my workspace. It is a place for students, apprentices, and fellow pottery enthusiasts to gather. We host open studio days, workshops, and community events like tea ceremonies and music sessions. If you are in Mumbai, I invite you to drop by, share a cup of tea, and experience the tactile, therapeutic nature of working with clay for yourself.

I am Rashi, and for me, clay is a way to stay connected to the present moment. My studio is a space for both creation and community—whether I am firing a new batch of mugs or teaching a workshop, it is always about the shared energy of the process.
