Community & Housing Master Planning
We believe housing is the foundation of city life. Our approach integrates private residences with shared courtyards, streets, and green spaces, creating environments where people connect naturally.
An aerial view of our 'Weaving a Fabric' housing project in Bengaluru, designed as a complex Nolli map of private and public spaces. The master plan focuses on creating an interconnected network of streets, courtyards, and plazas.
This perspective shows the human scale of the 'Weaving a Fabric' community. The design prioritizes pedestrian-friendly spaces, with gardens and recreational areas interspersed between the residential blocks to encourage social interaction.
'Orchards in the Sky' is our concept for a mixed-use development where residences are stacked to create staggered, receding terraces. These spaces are designed to house fruit-bearing trees, bringing agriculture into the urban environment.
This redevelopment project shows how we create a variegated architectural fabric to meet diverse stakeholder needs. The design moves beyond simple densification to offer a rich mix of private gardens, terraces, and community spaces.
A central community terrace within the redevelopment project, providing a shared green space for residents. The design incorporates gable roofs and textured screens to create a contemporary yet contextual aesthetic.
The completed 'Treehouse' housing project in Bengaluru, where we deconstructed the typical clubhouse. Social and activity spaces are vertically integrated through the building's core, from the ground floor lobby to the rooftop pool.
The rooftop infinity pool at the 'Treehouse' project offers panoramic views of the Bengaluru cityscape. This amenity is part of our strategy to deterritorialize the club and create unique social spaces.
About this collection
We approach every master plan as a Nolli map, meticulously balancing private built volumes with the public realm. Before drawing a single plan, we study the site’s climate and existing growth patterns to ensure the housing layout feels like an organic extension of the neighborhood rather than a walled-off enclave.
Designing for Interaction
Our residential designs reject the typical gated enclave model. In projects like 'The Treehouse' in Bengaluru, we reimagined the club facility by 'de-clubbing' it. Instead of a isolated building, we integrated social and activity spaces into a central vertical core. This links the apartments visually and functionally, turning corridors and lobbies into active community zones.
The Redevelopment Opportunity
When working on urban renewal or redevelopment, we treat the project as a chance to create a 'variegated fabric'. Rather than simple densification, we address the diverse needs of existing stakeholders by weaving together private gardens, shared terraces, and unique apartment layouts. This process ensures the new development respects the site's history while serving modern needs.
Our Methodology
- Site Analysis: We map wind paths, sun angles, and local socio-cultural patterns to ground the design.
- Climate Response: We prioritize passive cooling through shading devices and strategic orientation, reducing the reliance on artificial energy.
- Public Realm: We design the 'in-between' spaces—the streets, plazas, and courtyards—with as much care as the residences themselves. These spaces are where the community truly lives.
Every project we undertake, from high-density urban infill to expansive township planning, follows this rigorous path: documentation, iterative modeling, and careful articulation of scale.
Thirdspace
We are Praveen and Namrata. We approach architecture through deep context analysis—sketching models and diagramming site flows until the right solution reveals itself. For us, housing isn't about units; it's about building meaningful community interactions into the daily path.
