Residential Spaces: Homes as Living Galleries
I design homes that act as sanctuaries for memory, blending clean architectural lines with the honest texture of concrete and wood to house your life and art.
This feature showcases a range of my work, including a residence with soaring concrete walls and light-filled volumes. It highlights my approach to sophisticated minimalism, where the raw texture of materials and the play of natural light become the primary ornaments of the space.
A home I designed in Coonoor, where every detail, from the sculptural door handle to the geometric light fixture, is considered. The design seamlessly connects the interior living areas with the natural landscape outside, creating a tranquil retreat.
A look at the garden patio of my Amma’s home, a space that has evolved over decades. It represents my ideal of a home that grows with its inhabitants, where the garden is an extension of the living space and a keeper of family history.
About this collection
When I approach a residence, my focus is on the circulation of space and how it frames your daily life, rather than just the aesthetic finish. We work with an integrated philosophy where light, shadow, and material—often exposed concrete or reclaimed timber—are calibrated to create a gallery-like backdrop for your personal story. Before we begin, we examine the site’s natural light and wind flow to ensure that your home does not just look distinct, but performs efficiently across the seasons.
Architecture as a Living Gallery
Designing a home is an act of careful selection. It requires understanding the rhythm of a family’s life and providing a stage where that rhythm can unfold. At our studio in Koramangala, we reject the notion of homes as static monuments. Instead, we view them as fluid, evolving environments. Whether it is a contemporary apartment in Bengaluru or a retreat in the hills of Coonoor, our process remains consistent: we map human movement and intent before we lay a single brick.
The Role of Materiality
We advocate for honest materials. Exposed concrete, Kota stone, and teak are not chosen for their trendiness but for their ability to age with grace. These materials provide a neutral canvas, allowing the art, books, and memories within your home to take centre stage. By stripping away unnecessary ornamentation, we allow the spatial volume and the connection to the surrounding landscape to become the primary experience.
Our Process
- Spatial Mapping: We conduct rigorous studies of daylight and ventilation to determine the most functional layout for your living, dining, and transitional spaces.
- Custom Elements: Architecture is incomplete without the objects we touch. From sculptural door handles to geometric pendant lights, we design custom pieces that belong to the spatial logic of your project.
- Art-Integrated Design: Collaborating with artists is intrinsic to our practice. We plan your lighting and wall placements specifically to showcase art, turning corridors into gallery zones and living areas into exhibition spaces.
We believe in transparency. Our design consultancy covers civil layouts, GFC drawings, and lighting plans, but we do not execute the construction. This allows us to remain objective guides for your project, ensuring the design intent is maintained from the first sketch to the final build.
