My Philosophy - Practice as Enquiry
For me, architectural design is less about constructing walls and more about telling a story. I see every project as a chance to ask questions - about space, people, and the life that happens within. My process is messy, sometimes slow, but always driven by curiosity.
What I Believe
- Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword. I genuinely love working with old buildings, bringing them new meaning through adaptive reuse architecture.
- The right design fits in, not stands out. I dig into context-sensitive design, making sure buildings feel like home in their environment.
- Nature isn’t just a backdrop. I try weaving in open spaces, light, and air so rooms actually breathe.
What I Work On
- Homes: I think about my Amma’s home - it aged with time and care. That’s the feeling I chase. I handle everything, down to the door handles.
- Offices & Commercial: Work needs flexible, open spaces. I often take existing buildings and flip them into sustainable building solutions for modern use.
- Public Spaces: Architecture should give back. Museums, schools, cultural spots - I focus on spaces that invite and include.
How I Work
- Sketch first, talk later. I start with hand-drawn architectural sketches.
- I build physical models to test ideas, play with light, and see how spaces might work.
- Collaboration is key. I learn a ton from clients, artists, and sometimes even from mistakes.
I don’t just stop at buildings. Sometimes the job grows into designing interiors, furniture, or even art pieces - it’s all connected for me.

My Story
We’re Mathew and Ghosh Architects, based out of Bengaluru. Started with a simple house for Amma back in '95, that place grew into a patchwork of memories. Sketchbook’s always with me, whether I’m doodling Le Corbusier details or dreaming up a Museum of Lament. For us, design isn’t just buildings—it’s conversations, unrealised ideas, and stories that shape spaces. We’re about drawing, talking, and keeping it real with the community.
