Architectural Research and Design Inspirations
Design extends beyond the built form. Explore the observations, dialogues, and global inspirations that inform our architectural enquiry.
A portrait from a design charette, with the urban fabric projected onto my face. It is a poetic reminder that as architects, we are deeply embedded in and shaped by the cities we work in.
A morning cup of filter coffee in Tiruchirapalli's old city before a design workshop. The best way to understand a place is to immerse oneself in its daily rituals.
A bust of the great Indian architect Charles Correa on a university campus. His work and his writings on Indian urbanism have been a significant influence on my own thinking.
An interesting observation of a geometric mesh enclosure around a traditional temple gopuram in Devanahalli. It creates a curious juxtaposition of modern engineering and historic craftsmanship.
A quiet moment of reflection during a studio visit. Architecture requires not just action but also contemplation.
An invitation to a discussion with artist Sameer Kulavoor. I am always eager to engage in cross-disciplinary conversations, as they often spark new insights.
A video collage from the "Homage to Doshi" event, featuring many voices influenced by his work. It shows the global community that he built and inspired.
A candid discussion on a studio terrace. These informal conversations are often where the most valuable insights are shared.
Another view of the Vitra Fire Station, highlighting the dynamic relationship between its concrete planes.
The sharp, angular forms of Zaha Hadid's building create a powerful silhouette against the sky.
About Additional Work & Engagements
For us, architecture starts long before the first sketch. This collection of site visits, academic discussions, and studies of global precedents forms the research base for our projects. Whether we are analyzing the urban fabric of a historic temple town or deconstructing the concrete planes of the Vitra campus, these engagements are essential to how we refine our own design language.
Architecture, at its core, is a dialogue with history, context, and the community. By engaging with work from masters like Charles Correa, Zaha Hadid, and Kazuo Shinohara, we constantly challenge our own assumptions about space and function. We do not just look at these buildings, we study their tectonic details, their relationship with the landscape, and their ability to evoke memory.
For example, our fascination with the Umbrella House by Kazuo Shinohara is not just about its aesthetic. It is a study of how traditional timber joinery and simple, vernacular roof forms can be translated into a modern residential context. Similarly, our involvement in dialogues with fellow architects and artists, like the homage to B.V. Doshi, keeps our perspective fresh. We believe that an architect must remain a student for life.
When you work with our studio, you are not just hiring a service provider. You are engaging with a team that views every project as a research opportunity. We bring this depth of global exposure and critical thinking to every site in Bengaluru. From understanding the sun path on a plot to selecting the right reclaimed materials for an adaptive reuse project, we apply these broader lessons to the specific, practical needs of your build.
