Our Custom Fashion Design Process: From Sketch to Perfect Fit
Every outfit begins with an idea, not just fabric. See how we turn your vision into a reality through detailed fashion illustration and precise muslin draping.

This sketch shows a traditional bridal lehenga, complete with a dupatta. Illustrating the complete look helps in planning the fabrics, colors, and embroidery placement.

Here I am explaining the importance of using muslin fabric for draping. This inexpensive fabric allows us to resolve all fitting issues before cutting the final, more expensive material.

This video shows the draping process in action, from pinning the initial pleats to achieving a neat, finished look on the mannequin. Learning is fun and hands-on here.

About The Design Process: From Sketch to Mannequin
Before we touch your final fabric, we build your garment in plain muslin on a mannequin. This mock-up allows us to adjust every dart, pleat, and seam until the shape matches your body perfectly. We do this because, as we always say, perfect fitting barbeku alva (the fitting must be perfect, right?). It means no surprises, no wasted material, and the confidence that your final garment will fit exactly as intended.
Our Three-Step Design Journey
We approach every custom outfit—whether it is a bridal lehenga, a gown, or a simple blouse—with a structured process designed to eliminate guesswork.
1. Fashion Illustration & Sketching It starts with a 1-on-1 consultation where we discuss your style, the occasion, and your vision. We translate this into hand-drawn fashion sketches. This step is crucial because it helps us visualize the proportions, neckline, and embellishments before we commit to any cutting or sewing.
2. The Muslin Toile (Fitting Engineering) This is the secret to a high-end finish. We create a 'toile'—a rough cotton mock-up of your design. We pin, tuck, and drape this muslin on a mannequin to ensure the bodice structure, princess cuts, and volume are spot on. If you want a specific silhouette, like a mermaid or a flare with can-can, this is where we engineer it to ensure it supports your body comfortably. It saves time and ensures the expensive final fabric is cut with total precision.
3. Final Construction Only after the fit is approved on the muslin do we move to the final fabric. Our senior artisans, who bring over 30 years of experience, handle the sewing, Aari work, and embroidery. We focus on details like concealed zippers, handmade latkans, and reinforced waistbands to ensure the garment lasts.
Why We Emphasize Draping
We teach these exact draping and pattern-making methods to our students at the academy. By learning to sculpt fabric directly on the mannequin, you move beyond flat-pattern drafting and start understanding how fabric truly behaves on the human form. Whether you are coming to us for a custom outfit or to learn fashion design, this process remains the foundation of our work.
