About Behind the Seams: Our Design Process
When you bring me an idea, we don't just copy it. We break down the silhouette, discuss fabric choices like raw silk or micro velvet, and plan the internal structure—whether it needs double can-can layers for volume or flexible boning for that perfect shape. It is a real collaboration, so we will have at least two trials to make sure every stitch sits exactly where it should before you walk out the door.
At TBC, the design process is where the magic happens. Whether you are walking into my studio in Ulhasnagar or we are connecting online, the journey to your dream outfit follows a simple, transparent path.
1. The Consultation & Sketching
We start with a chat about your vision. You bring the reference—maybe a celebrity look you saw on Instagram or a completely unique concept—and I sketch it out. We talk about color palettes, blouse cuts, and skirt styles like Kali or Umbrella, ensuring the design matches your body type and the event’s vibe.
2. Fabric Sourcing & Construction
I source fabrics from my inventory, focusing on quality basics like Organza, Georgette, and Raw Silk. This is where the technical work begins. If it is a ballgown, we apply horsehair braid for those perfect ruffle waves. For bridal lehengas, we add double can-can layers to achieve that heavy, voluminous look. We handle everything from computer embroidery to fine hand-embellished finishes like mirror work and cut-dana.
3. The Fitting Process
Fit is everything. I don't just give you an outfit; I build it for you. We go through a minimum of two trials—a raw fit to check the structure and a final fit to ensure the zippers, cups, and drapes are flawless.
4. Upcycling & Customisation
Got an heirloom saree you want to preserve? I love the challenge of re-engineering vintage pieces. We strategically map borders and pallas to convert traditional drapes into modern co-ord sets or gowns, keeping the sentimental value while upgrading the structure with canvas stiffening and modern linings.
Whether you need a bespoke tuxedo or a luxury birthday dress for your little one, I keep it real about timelines and fabrics. If a material doesn't work, I'll tell you upfront and help you find a better solution.
