Our Philosophy in Practice

Architecture is a conversation between materials, people, and time. See how we move from initial sketches and physical models to on-site collaborations that shape our final designs.

A hands-on demonstration of our handmade textured grey wash finish. We developed this inexpensive and simple wall finish over a decade ago, and we continue to iterate on the process to achieve unique, character-rich surfaces in our projects.

Our team in Anegundi, spending time with local weavers and artisans from the Kishkinda Trust. We believe in learning from age-old handicraft practices and local materials to inspire innovative and contextually relevant design solutions.

Our team participating in the 'Project Empowerment' workshop, helping construction workers understand how to read architectural drawings. We believe in bridging the communication gap on site to ensure better craftsmanship and a more collaborative building process.

About this collection

Architecture for us begins long before the first brick is laid. We spend time in quarries selecting stone, run workshops to teach construction teams how to read drawings, and use physical models to feel how light moves through a room. You will see that process here, because the way a building is made is just as important as the final space.

Our approach is rooted in the belief that a building is an organism, not just a structure. This cluster highlights the research and labor that ground our designs. You will see our master model maker, Vijay, crafting studies to understand scale, light, and spatial relationships, as well as field trips to Anegundi to learn from local artisans. We often use AI tools like Midjourney to visualize complex, light-filled communal areas before we commit to the final form.

We also prioritize the human element on site. Through initiatives like our 'Project Empowerment' workshops, we bridge the communication gap between the drawing board and the construction site, ensuring that builders understand our vision. We believe in material honesty, too. Take our textured grey wash finish, for instance. We developed this method over a decade ago by mixing grey cement, white cement, and POP, iterating on the proportions to create a character-rich surface that is both inexpensive and unique. Whether we are planning an academic block, a museum, or a library, our goal is to create spaces that allow people to think, create, and connect. If you are looking for an architectural process that values craft, climate responsiveness, and deep local context, let us talk about your upcoming project.
