The Ashram Immersion Experience in Amboli
Step away from the noise and enter a life of discipline, sattvic living, and traditional yoga practice in the serene Western Ghats.
This video offers a glimpse into the daily rhythm of ashram life. From watching the sunrise over the hills to gathering for practice and Satsang, it shows the immersive environment where spiritual growth flourishes.
A moment of quiet contemplation overlooking the ashram grounds in Amboli. The peaceful, natural surroundings are an integral part of the experience, providing a calm backdrop for intense inner work.
The simple, traditional architecture of our ashram buildings is designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape. This provides a clean, uncluttered, and sattvic environment for students to live and practice in.

Overlooking the lush greenery of Amboli, the ashram is a true sanctuary. This seclusion is a key component of the intensive courses, allowing for a complete digital detox and total focus on your sadhana.
A group of students practices Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) in our spacious yoga hall. Practicing together creates a powerful collective energy that supports and motivates each individual in their journey.
The circular design and central mandala of our main hall create a focused and sacred space for group asana classes. Here, students work on balance and concentration, essential skills for any serious yogi.
The entire group rests in Savasana under the natural light of the hall's central skylight. This shared moment of stillness is a powerful part of the communal ashram experience.
The yoga hall is a simple, functional space, free from distractions. The focus is purely on the practice, with rustic wooden floors and walls that have absorbed the energy of countless hours of sadhana.

About The Ashram Immersion Experience
Life here is not a vacation. We maintain a strict, salt-free and sugar-free diet to support deep energy work, and you will be asked to surrender your mobile phone upon arrival to ensure a complete digital detox for the duration of your stay.
A Return to Traditional Sadhana
Our ashram immersion is not about mastering advanced postures to show others. It is about breaking past the limitations of the mind and body through the five points of yoga as taught by Swami Vishnudevananda. Whether you join us for the 14-day Advanced Hatha & Kriya Course or the 28-day Hatha Yoga Sadhana Intensive, the goal remains the same: self-transformation through discipline.
What Defines Our Immersion
- The Schedule: Our routine is relentless. In the Hatha Yoga Sadhana Intensive, you will engage in up to 9 hours of daily practice, including extended asana holds and prolonged pranayama sessions that go well beyond standard classes.
- The Environment: Set in the hills of Amboli, Maharashtra, the ashram is designed to facilitate seclusion. The architecture is functional and simple, providing a space where you can focus entirely on your inner journey without the distractions of the modern world.
- Dietary Discipline: Food is fuel for your practice. We serve sattvic meals—no onion, garlic, or caffeine. During the 28-day intensive, the diet becomes even more focused, eliminating salt, sugar, and spices to support your nervous system during intense energy work.
Philosophy and Practice
Sadhana is a holistic path. Your time here involves daily Satsang, Vedanta philosophy lectures, and study of classical scriptures like the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. We work on the physical body to clear the channels, but the ultimate purpose is the study of the Self. This is for those with a sincere desire for knowledge who are ready to commit fully to the process.
Govindananda Saraswati
We are Sivananda Yoga Vidya Peetham, founded by Swami Govindananda to carry forward the teachings of his Guru, Swami Vishnudevananda. We do not offer shortcuts or modern variations, only the traditional path of yoga and Vedanta as it has been taught for generations.
