My foundation is in the deep, meditative sounds of the Rampur Senia Gharana, but I also enjoy stepping outside those boundaries. Here is my Sitar, finding new life in Rabindra Sangeet, Carnatic compositions, and familiar film melodies.

It’s a shame that as an Indian Classical musician, I know so little about Carnatic music. This is my little experiment playing a famous Carnatic composition, 'Maha Ganapathim', on the sitar.

I had to get this out of my system. This tune 'Jamal Kudu' from the movie Animal is so annoyingly addictive. Here is my little experiment, mixing it with Raag Bhimpalsi.

"Gaaiteo parina, na geyeo thakte parina" (I can't sing, but I can't stay without singing either). A humble attempt at a Rabindra Sangeet for Rabindra Jayanti.

A little fun after a day's riyaz. This is an all-time favorite old Hindi song of mine. Can you guess the song and the movie?

My rendition of a patriotic song for Republic Day. Listening to this song gave me my first pangs of patriotism as a child. This is all recorded, edited, and mixed by me.

A performance of Vande Mataram with my students. We may not have gotten the tune 100% correct, but we surely got the spirit right. Jai Hind!

About Beyond Classical: Explorations & Renditions

When I arrange a piece like 'Jamal Kudu' or a Carnatic classic for the Sitar, I do not change the instrument's fundamental character. I try to weave the familiar melody into a Raga framework—often using scales like Bhimpalasi to match the mood—so you get a tune you recognize, played with the sustain and depth that only a traditional Sitar can provide.
