Behind the Scenes of My Sitar Practice
A deeper look at the raw, unfiltered moments of my musical journey—from private riyaaz sessions and studio recordings to reflections on my gurus.
A glimpse from a recording session in a studio. I was recording Raag Darbari for the very first time for a Kathak dance project.
A short excerpt of an Alaap in Raag Gurjari Todi, recorded on a not-so-cold morning at my then-home in Sankt Augustin, Germany.
Recorded in November 2020 in Germany. Sometimes, music is the only way to express a feeling of loss that words cannot capture.
The feelings that old audio clips of my Guru bring out are not possible to express in words. I don't know if they make me sad or happy, but I am glad I have them to go back to.
Exploring a different flavor of the Holi favorite, Raag Kafi. This raag is synonymous with the festival of colors.
A close-up shot, tuning the sitar before a performance. The preparation is as much a part of the music as the performance itself.
About this collection
These aren't just performances; they are raw, private explorations from my daily riyaaz. When you book me for an event, you are tapping into this same dedication to the craft—whether it is for a quiet Baithak or a larger concert. I believe the music speaks best when it is honest, so what you see here is exactly how I prepare for the stage.
My Musical Laboratory
Music is a journey that never really ends. These clips are my personal laboratory where I explore new ragas, revisit old masters, and sometimes, just let the instrument speak when words fail. From recording Raag Darbari for Kathak projects to short, meditative excerpts of Alaap in Raag Gurjari Todi recorded on cold German mornings, each piece here captures a moment of my growth.
The Rampur Senia Influence
Everything I play is rooted in the Rampur Senia Gharana. It is a tradition that values silence as much as sound. When you listen to these reflections, you will hear the 'Dhrupad baaj' influence—a slow, introspective style that demands patience from both the performer and the listener. It is not about flash or speed, but about finding the 'kharaj' (the deep, resonant notes) that touch the soul.
Why This Matters for Your Event
If you are planning an event, you might wonder why I share these behind-the-scenes moments. It is because I want you to know the person behind the sitar. Whether it is a corporate gig or an intimate spiritual gathering, my focus remains the same: creating a space for reflection. I don't just show up to play; I bring the years of sadhana, the discipline of my gurus, and the quiet moments captured in these recordings to every performance.
If you find resonance in these clips, I would love to hear what you are planning. Let’s talk about how we can bring this meditative, classical atmosphere to your next event.
