Jewellery photography isn't just about clicking objects. It is about light that makes gold sing and stones fire up. Here is how I frame luxury.

A creative jewellery campaign shot. We used water to add an element of surprise and reflection, making the traditional turban and jewellery feel modern and artistic.

This shot showcases a magnificent multi-layered necklace. The lighting is carefully controlled to highlight the vibrant colors of the emeralds and rubies without losing detail in the intricate design.

A classic bridal jewellery shot for a campaign. The focus is on the interaction between the couple, while ensuring the intricate details of the necklace, nose ring, and headpiece are perfectly lit.

For this portrait, the goal was to create a regal and powerful mood. The dramatic, low-key lighting makes the stunning green beaded necklace the undeniable hero of the image.

A portrait of a groom adorned in royal jewellery. The lighting is focused to bring out the rich red of the rubies and the texture of the brocade sherwani and turban.

About this collection

Photographing jewellery is technical warfare. You are fighting unwanted reflections on every curved surface while trying to keep the fire of the stone alive. My approach is not to just snap a photo; it is to build a light setup that mimics the way luxury feels in real life. It has to be sharp, opulent, and precise, which is why I work tethered on set for every single campaign.

When I shoot for a jewellery campaign, the goal is simple: make the viewer want to reach through the screen. Achieving that requires a specific workflow that I have refined over years of commercial work in Mumbai.

The Setup

I don't rely on ambient light for jewellery. I use a multi-light Profoto setup, often bringing in optical snoots and freshens to carve out highlights on the gold or silver. If we are shooting emeralds or rubies, the lighting needs to be calibrated to pull out their specific saturation without washing out the metal texture. It is a game of millimeters.

Why Tethering Matters

For these campaigns, I shoot tethered to a laptop. This allows me, my digitech, and the client to check focus and lighting falloff in real time. We do not guess. If a clasp is out of focus or a stone lacks depth, we fix it on the spot. This ensures that when you get the files, they are ready for high-end print or digital billboards without needing massive structural fixes.

Retouching

I handle the post-production myself. This is where the magic happens. I use techniques like frequency separation to ensure the jewellery is sharp enough to cut, while keeping the skin textures around it looking human and real. No plastic, over-smoothed faces here. You get commercial-grade imagery that actually sells your product.
