The Artist's Journey: Lineage, Inspiration & Accolades
Art is not just a profession for me, it is a living lineage. Here, I share the mentors, moments, and inspirations that have shaped my path as a Haridasa and dancer.
Guru Poornima is a day to surrender at the feet of the Guru. This year was special as I could be with my Guruji, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, in person. I am forever grateful for every blessing and every lesson he has imparted.
The sacred thread ceremony during Guru Poornima with my Guruji. This ritual symbolizes the unbroken bond and the passing of knowledge from the Guru to the disciple, a tradition I hold very dear.
A cherished moment with my Guruji, Pt. Rajendra Gangani. His guidance has not only shaped me as an artist but also as a person. His presence is a constant source of inspiration and strength.
A collage of memories with my Guruji. He opened my eyes to a world of endless possibilities and gave me the strength to reach for them. I am forever indebted to him for the light he brought into my life.
The breathtaking beauty of the snow-capped mountains in Switzerland inspired me to compose the 'Sarveshwara Stotram'. Nature is the greatest muse, and in such surroundings, my humble ode to Lord Shiva chose me to be written through.
My personal and humble offering to Lord Maheshwara, the 'Sarveshwara Stotram'. This composition, inspired by the mountains, is my attempt to describe his divine attributes, from the sounds of his anklets to his role as the protector of devotees.
I was humbled to receive the prestigious 'Rajyothsava' award from the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI) and The Rotary 3192. Such recognition for my work is deeply encouraging.
The official certificate for the Rajyothsava award. I am grateful to be recognized for my service to the art and culture of my state, Karnataka.
It was an honor to be bestowed with the title 'Kala-PraPoorna' by the Shivapriya Institute and MS Natyakshetra. I am thankful for this recognition of my dedication to the performing arts.
"Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known." This quote by Oscar Wilde resonates deeply with me. This is a portrait of me as an artist, a storyteller, and a seeker.
About The Artist's Journey: Lineage, Inspiration & Accolades
My path is defined by the teachers I have been fortunate to learn from, such as Pt. Rajendra Gangani. While accolades like the Rajyothsava are humbling, my true fulfillment comes when a performance bridges the gap between ancient philosophy and the modern mind.
For me, art is a dialogue between the past and the present. When I perform, I am not merely presenting a technical display of Kathak or recounting a story from the Puranas. I am attempting to translate the concept of Dharma into a language that speaks to a contemporary audience.
My training in the Jaipur Gharana of Kathak taught me the discipline of rhythm and the importance of grace. However, my inspiration often comes from the places I visit and the people I meet. Whether I am composing music amidst the mountains or engaging in a discussion with other artists, I look for the underlying 'Rasa'—that fleeting moment of bliss that connects us all.
When we organize productions, we do not just use technology for the sake of it. We use projections and multimedia as a canvas to bring the Mahabharata or the stories of our saints into the room with you. My studio in Jayanagar serves as the nucleus for this work, where we practice, compose, and constantly re-evaluate how to keep our traditions vibrant and accessible for today's world.
