Long Jump: Mastering the Flight
Long jump is speed, rhythm, and explosive power colliding at the board. We train at Kanteerava Stadium, focusing on the specific mechanics that turn a simple run into a massive leap. Let’s work on your flight.
This is the follow-through of a long jump, a critical phase for maximizing distance. We train on a proper runway and sand pit, focusing on technique from takeoff to landing.
A long jump attempt during the South Asian Masters Athletics Championship. This shows the application of our training in a real competition setting, where speed on the runway translates to distance in the pit.
About this collection
Most jumpers focus purely on the landing, but the real work happens in the penultimate step. That second-to-last stride before your takeoff is where you lose or gain your distance. We spend our sessions at Kanteerava Stadium refining your run-up consistency, ensuring your foot hits the board with enough horizontal speed to convert into raw vertical height. If your approach is shaky, your flight will be too.
The long jump is a game of physics. We break your performance down into four critical phases: the approach, the takeoff, the flight, and the landing.
The Approach Run
Speed is the foundation. We work on your acceleration mechanics to ensure you hit the board at maximum controlled velocity. We don't just run; we measure your stride pattern to ensure you are hitting the board consistently without stuttering.
The Takeoff
This is where the explosion happens. We focus on the 'penultimate step' technique, lowering your center of gravity slightly to prepare for the upward drive. We drill your block starts and transition movements so you aren't just jumping, but launching.
Flight and Landing
Once you are airborne, it is about balance and keeping your feet forward. We work on your air mechanics—the hitch-kick or hang technique—to maximize your distance. Then comes the landing. Many people fear the sand pit, but we practice safe, efficient landing mechanics so you protect your joints and minimize the impact.
Why Kanteerava Stadium?
We train on the real synthetic track and professional sand pits. This gives you the environment you need to build confidence. Whether you are prepping for a competitive meet or just want to see how far you can jump, my training at Athletes Revolution is designed to build the strength, mobility, and ankle stability that every long jumper needs.
Shantha Murthy
I’m Shantha Murthy. I’ve spent years on the track, and I know that the sand pit is where you truly learn how to land—and how to bounce back. My coaching is simple: we work on the mechanics until you stop thinking about them and just fly.
