Thammampatty Heritage: Authentic GI-Certified Wood Carvings
Our work is a century-old legacy, hand-carved in Thammampatty using traditional techniques. Each piece carries the official Geographical Indication (GI) tag, ensuring you receive an authentic temple-art sculpture rooted in our regional heritage.
This is not just a craft, it is a heritage. Our GI status is built on historical and technical proof, a guarantee of the authenticity and quality that has defined Thammampatty for over a century.
Our legacy is carved in wood. This image captures an artisan deeply focused on his work, a tradition of spiritual intention and realistic detail that we have upheld for over a century.
Thammampatty has been home to generations of master artisans. This image pairs the serene landscape of our home with a picture of our founder, representing the deep connection between our craft and its place of origin.
Our sculptures are not just certified; they are carved legacies. This image juxtaposes our traditional hand tools with a finished, hand-painted Yaali bracket, connecting the process with the final product.
About this collection
We do not use machines. Every sculpture you see is shaped from seasoned Vagai or Rain Tree wood using hand-sharpened chisels. When you order, we select a block of wood based on your desired size and finish, ensuring the grain aligns with the deity's features before carving begins.
The Thammampatty Legacy
Our craft is not just a commercial service, it is a protected heritage. Thammampatty has long been the home of master artisans who specialize in South Indian temple-style carvings. By holding the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, we provide proof that our sculptures are made using the authentic methods and materials specific to our region, rather than mass-produced replicas.
Material and Technique
We work primarily with seasoned Vagai and Rain Tree hardwoods, selected for their durability and grain structure. We follow Shilpa Shastra guidelines for iconometry to ensure that our idols maintain the correct proportions and spiritual presence. Whether you choose a classic natural wax brown finish or a vibrant hand-painted aesthetic, the wood is chemically treated to resist termites and humidity, ensuring longevity for your home temple or display.
From Our Workshop to You
We manage the entire process, from selecting the raw log to the final sanding and crating. Large pieces, such as our 4-foot to 7-foot statues, require complex joinery and integrated Prabhavali arches. We crate these using export-quality materials, adding shock absorption to protect delicate details like carved fingers and facial features during transit. We believe in transparency, so if a piece requires extra time due to the wood's natural character, we communicate that clearly during the carving phase.
