About Carved Wooden Wall Art & Reliefs
For me, wood carving isn’t just a job - it’s my family’s story, rooted in Thammampatty, Salem. Our style comes straight from the same hands that shaped South Indian temple art. Every piece is GI-certified, so what you get isn’t just a showpiece, but a slice of our heritage.
What I Make
- I craft two main types: carved relief panels (think: mythological scenes, single deities, or bold geometric forms) and wooden wall masks (three-dimensional faces of gods and mythical beings).
- My inspiration? Purely from Hindu mythology. You’ll find Dasavatharam stories, Meenakshi Thirukalyanam, Gajalakshmi, Ashta Lakshmi panels, Ganesha, Krishna, and even mystical creatures like Yaali.
The Process
- Everything’s done by hand, from raw wood to smooth finish.
- Women from my community are part of this too - it’s a real team effort.
- I use traditional tools to keep the old ways alive.
Finishes & Sizes
- You can pick: natural wood, wax brown (super classic), multicolored (vibrant, pops on your wall), or an antique look for that vintage feel.
- Sizes go from small (1-foot) to massive (8-foot) - whatever fits your space.
- All pieces come with hooks for easy wall mounting.
If you want something rooted in tradition, with a bit of South Indian temple drama, my handcrafted wooden deity masks or larger narrative panels could be what your wall needs.

My Story
We are Sengottuvel Wood Carvings, straight from Thammampatty. Our hands know this wood like an old friend. Every morning starts with sharpening chisels, not rushing, just finding the groove. We don’t just make sculptures – we carry our ancestors in every curve. GI tag? That’s proof, not a show-off. If you hold one of our panels, you’re holding a bit of us, a bit of Thammampatty, a carved memory really.
