About Architectural Wood Carvings
From Thammampatty, With Heart
I’m Sengottuvel. Carving wood is my family’s story - not just a job. In Salem, everyone knows Thammampatty for woodwork. What I do isn’t just business, it’s about keeping alive the craft my ancestors started. Every piece I make is GI-certified, so you’re getting true, original work.
Crafting by Hand, Not Machine
I stick to the old ways. Hand-chisels, old-school tools, slow and steady. It takes more time, but the details pop in a way machines can’t do. Sanding, carving, finishing - all by hand. That’s how our wood gets its soul.
Bringing Tradition Into Your Space
I make architectural wood carvings that fit homes, temples, or anywhere you want that South Indian vibe. Think hand-carved temple doors that stand tall and command attention. Chettinad-style entrances up to 8 feet - people love the patterns and size.
Brackets? Yep, those too. I carve everything from Yaali (mythical creatures) to Annapakshi (divine swan), plus elephants and parrots. Usually sold in pairs, they’re great for shelves or just as wall art.
You want pillars or wall panels? I do custom wooden pillars for that full-on traditional look. Ornate wall panels, sometimes 7 feet high, with Dasavatharam or Meenakshi Thirukalyanam themes. Each one is a statement piece.
Finishes That Suit You
Take your pick - raw wood, wax polish, or lively painted finishes. Whatever you choose, it’s straight from my hands, not a factory. This is real, authentic, and sometimes, if you want a perfect finish, you gotta wait a bit longer. That’s the deal with true handmade work.

My Story
We are Sengottuvel Wood Carvings, straight from Thammampatty. Our hands know this wood like an old friend. Every morning starts with sharpening chisels, not rushing, just finding the groove. We don’t just make sculptures – we carry our ancestors in every curve. GI tag? That’s proof, not a show-off. If you hold one of our panels, you’re holding a bit of us, a bit of Thammampatty, a carved memory really.
