We transform residential spaces into living ecosystems, weaving your home into the natural landscape by honoring existing trees, native soil, and local topography.

For this residential project, the landscape was designed around existing old-growth trees, including mango, tamarind, and a majestic rain tree. The new structures and plantings occupy the spaces below, respecting these venerable giants.

The main lawn area for a residential project provides a versatile open space for recreation and relaxation. It is intentionally designed to be surrounded by the property's magnificent existing trees, including mangoes and tamarind.

Another view from a site in progress, where the architectural opening acts as a picture frame for the landscape beyond. This practice of 'framing views' is a key technique we use to connect indoor and outdoor spaces.

About Private Estates & Residential Gardens

We do not just clear a plot and start building. Before we place a single stone, we spend time mapping your site's contours, sun paths, and existing vegetation—like those venerable mango or tamarind trees you might already have. We design in the negative space around these natural features, creating a seamless flow between your indoor rooms and the garden. This ensures the house feels like it grew out of the earth rather than being placed upon it.

Our Approach to Residential Landscapes

Every residential project begins with site reconnaissance. We believe that a landscape is not just an aesthetic addition but a functioning ecosystem. Our methodology is rooted in the Indian concept of 'Devrai' or sacred forests, where we take only what nature gives freely. We analyze the land's natural slope to manage drainage, map mature tree canopies, and identify optimal zones for human interaction.

Designing With the Land

Instead of leveling the ground, we work with the topography. This includes creating contour trenches for water retention and using native soil stabilization techniques. We specialize in:

  • Framing Views: We align architectural openings to act as windows into your garden, ensuring a visual connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • Native Plant Palettes: We select trees and shrubs based on their ability to thrive in your microclimate, using species like Vetiver grass for soil holding and local herbs for aromatic experiences.
  • Hardscape Integration: We use local, durable materials like granite and cobblestone to create pathways, decks, and seating areas that weather gracefully over time.

Technical Planning

Our service goes beyond the visual. We provide detailed Master Plans that include civil drawings for hardscapes, BOQ for tendering, and MEP layouts for irrigation and outdoor lighting. Whether we are restoring a heritage driveway or designing a new mango grove dining deck, our goal is to create a resilient, low-maintenance garden that brings people together.

We are SAPA. Our design process starts with listening to the land, not imposing upon it. Whether you have a small courtyard or a large estate, we believe the best spaces are those where architecture steps back to let nature take the lead. We find the soul of your property by protecting what is already there and adding only what is necessary.
