The true measure of a successful public space is the joy it inspires. Here, at the refurbished Gora Dabkal ground in Mumbai's Worli Fishing Village, children find delight in a simple moment, embodying our goal to create landscapes that foster community and vibrant life.
We were honored to be selected for the International Garden Festival at Domain de Chaumont-sur-Loire, France. Our entry, "Devrai, A Sacred Forest," translated the indigenous Indian concept of resilient, protected ecosystems for a global audience, a testament to our philosophy of culturally rooted design.
A glimpse of a recently completed lakeside villa landscape taking shape. Our design works in harmony with the waterfront, creating a seamless transition from the built environment to the natural one, offering serene views and a lush, private garden sanctuary.
We approached the landscape of this venerable, century-old edifice with deep respect for its history. The design frames the building's architectural excellence, creating formal lawns and seating areas that invite quiet contemplation and appreciation of its timeless character.
This rendering envisions an intimate dining deck nestled within a 'Mango Vadi' or mango grove. Our design for private estates often creates such unique outdoor living areas, integrating lifestyle features directly into the natural beauty of the site.
This administrative office for the Tibetan Community in Karnataka is a showcase of our commitment to sustainable, zero-footprint design. The landscape integrates with an edifice built from mud bricks and other local materials, centered around a courtyard that serves as a vital communal space.
As dusk settles over the Worli Fishing Village, the Gora Dabkal ground transforms. The landscape lighting design provides safety and ambiance, ensuring the park remains a cherished community hub for relaxation and connection well into the evening, with the sea-link as a backdrop.
In this video, we explain the philosophy behind our "Sacred Forest" garden in France. We discuss how the Indian cultural practice of the Devrai, or sacred grove, is a model of resilience, biodiversity, and a respectful human relationship with nature, which are the core principles of our work.
About Featured
Every landscape we craft—from public grounds in the Worli fishing village to private estates—is guided by the principles of a Devrai, or sacred forest. We prioritize existing topography and native biodiversity, ensuring that even in urban settings, our designs function as resilient, water-positive ecosystems that invite life rather than replace it.
Architecture as Stewardship
We approach landscape architecture not as a blank canvas, but as a conversation with the land. Our Featured collection highlights our diverse methodologies, whether we are breathing life into a neglected public ground or creating a sanctuary within a residential estate.
Heritage and Restoration
For our heritage projects, such as the century-old edifice restoration, we operate with a surgical approach. We retain historical integrity by sourcing period-appropriate stone and wood, ensuring modern interventions like drainage or seating remain invisible. Our focus is to honor the original masonry and spatial logic while adapting the site for contemporary use.
Community and Public Spaces
Projects like the Gora Dabkal ground demonstrate our belief in the 'Gramam Pranganam' (village courtyard). We view these as social infrastructure. By designing for multi-generational use—fitness, meditation, and festivals—we ensure these spaces become self-sustaining community hubs. Our design involves careful site reconnaissance, utilizing slope studies to manage water flow and creating zones that naturally encourage human interaction.
Private Sanctuaries
For private estates, we emphasize the 'Mango Vadi' concept. We integrate built structures like dining decks directly into natural groves, relying on native planting palettes to provide thermal comfort and privacy. Each project includes a rigorous technical backend, covering civil drawings for hardscapes, rainwater harvesting via kunds, and automated irrigation systems that keep the site thriving without resource strain.
