Authentic Vidaai Moments Captured on Film
The vidaai is a transition—a mix of joy for a new life and the ache of leaving home. We step back, stay silent, and wait for the real emotions to surface.
These last five minutes from Sagrika and Aryaman’s wedding film capture the beautiful, evolving relationships during the vidaai. It’s in these small, fleeting moments that we find the greatest treasures and the true reason we document weddings.
This is it. The reason we document weddings. This moment during the vidaai, as the groom comforts his bride in the car, with her father looking on, is a universe of emotions. It’s about letting go and holding on, all at once. We choose to shoot these powerful moments in black and white to make them timeless.
A solitary tear runs down a brother's cheek as he hugs his sister during her vidaai. This powerful, emotional moment captures the deep bond between siblings and the bittersweet nature of this farewell.
About The Vidaai: A Bittersweet Goodbye
We often shoot the vidaai on 35mm analog film and monochrome digital profiles. By removing the distraction of bright, festive colors, we can isolate the genuine shift in the family dynamic—the quiet sadness and the hope—that can get lost in the visual noise of a celebration. We will not ask you to look at the camera or pose; we will simply wait for the moment your father’s hand rests on your shoulder or the tears fall, so you have an honest record of your last moments at home.
We believe the most profound stories happen in the silences. When we document a vidaai, we are essentially chroniclers of a major life shift. You won't find us standing in the way or directing traffic. We prefer the quiet corners, using Leica systems and prime lenses because they allow us to work with natural light and minimal gear, keeping our presence discreet. This approach is essential during a farewell; the atmosphere is delicate, and the last thing you need is a production crew in your face.
In our films, we prioritize real audio over generic soundtracks. The hushed whispers, the sound of the car door closing, the intake of breath before the goodbye—these elements carry more emotional weight than any backing track could. We look for the unexpected connections: a brother struggling to hold back tears, a mother’s subtle gaze, or the groom offering comfort as the reality of the moment sinks in.
Whether it is a traditional ritual or a spontaneous departure, our goal is to hold space for these feelings. We want you to look back at these photos and films not as a performance, but as a truthful reflection of who you and your family were in that exact second.
