Experience the raw, unfiltered energy of a traditional baithak, where the tabla speaks directly to the audience in the close comfort of your home or gathering.

A moment of joy during an intimate baithak performance. As I often say, "Badukonthara bhavageete," which means life itself is like a song if you listen closely.

About this collection

For these intimate acoustic sessions, the physical setup matters most. I play in the traditional floor-seating style, so you will need to arrange rugs or mattresses for the artist area to ensure guests can sit close. This proximity is what creates that direct conversation between the rhythm and the listener, which is the heart of a baithak.

The Baithak Experience

A baithak is not just a concert, it is a shared space. Unlike a formal stage performance, these 75-minute sessions are designed to be acoustic and conversational. I specialize in the Faroukhabad Gharana, a style known for its intricate, expressive patterns, and I bring a professional harmonium player to provide the lehra, which serves as the melodic cycle for our rhythmic dialogue.

What to Expect

  • Interactive Sessions: I do not just play; I explain. I like to provide spoken context in English or Kannada, helping non-experts understand the complex rhythmic structures as we go.
  • Intimacy: Because these sessions are unplugged, they are ideal for gatherings of 20 to 30 guests. The natural sound of the tabla creates a specific energy that fills a room without the need for heavy amplification.
  • Logistics: The package includes my travel within Bengaluru. My main requirement is the floor seating space, which helps maintain the traditional decorum of the performance.

Why This Format?

I believe that what happens in life is often out of our control, but music is something we can shape together. These intimate settings allow me to share that belief, letting the audience see the precision of every beat up close. If you are looking to host a baithak that feels like a conversation rather than a recital, this is the format to choose.

Tabla came to me as a gift from my father and guru, Pandit Rajgopal Kallurkar, so it is the language I know best. I love playing in these smaller, shared spaces because it is the only way to really hear the fine details of the rhythm. Let us sit together and make some music.
