Tabla Legacy: Learning from Pt. Rajgopal Kallurkar
My tabla journey began at home, shaped by the hands and teachings of my appa, Pandit Rajgopal Kallurkar. This art is a language we speak together.
A playful moment captured with my appa during a photoshoot. Our connection goes beyond father and son, he is my guru, and our shared language is the rhythm of the tabla.
This is a cherished moment with my appa and guru, Pandit Rajgopal Kallurkar. Learning from him is the greatest blessing, as this art is a legacy passed down through my family. We are seen here in a tabla duet setting.

About this collection
When we sit down to play, it is not just about technical precision. We often spend as much time discussing the context of a composition as we do playing it. That is the difference between learning from a book and learning from a father who has lived every beat he teaches.
Growing up at the Kallur Mahalaxmi Tabala Vidyalaya, rhythm was the background score of my life. My father, Pandit Rajgopal Kallurkar, is my guru, and our connection extends far beyond the stage. The style I perform, the Faroukhabad Gharana, relies on detail and expression, but it is the shared understanding I have with my appa that brings the most depth to our duets.
Whether it is an intimate baithak where the audience sits mere feet away or a formal concert hall, my goal remains the same: sharing the energy of the music. I find that when people see the relationship between student and teacher, they connect more deeply with the performance.
I perform across Bengaluru and travel throughout India for both solo recitals and collaborative shows. I regularly accompany vocalists and instrumentalists in Hindustani and Carnatic fusion, which keeps my playing style adaptive. If you are looking for a performance that values the roots of Indian classical music while staying open to conversational, rhythmic exchanges, I would love to connect.
We can discuss whether a traditional solo recital or a fusion jugalbandi fits your event best. My riyaz is constant, and my approach is simple: music should feel like a conversation that draws the listener in, regardless of their familiarity with the technicalities of tala.

I am Roopak. Growing up, the rhythm of the tabla was the background score of my life, thanks to my father and guru. Music is how we connect, and I am honoured to share that heritage with you.
