From designing intricate rhythmic jathis for debut Arangetrams to conducting live orchestras for dance festivals, I compose music that is built to breathe with your choreography.
A full stage performance featuring my live vocals and konnakol for a Bharatanatyam recital. This clip shows the synergy between the dancer, the live orchestra, and the musical composition.
A powerful moment from the 'NagaMandala' dance festival. My music and vocals were composed to create a dramatic and intense atmosphere, using light, smoke, and sound to tell a story.
It gives me tumba khushi to see a dancer bring a concept to life with my music. This is a clip from the initial choreography stages for the 'Krishna Kalaapam' project, set to my vocals and jathi compositions.
A behind the scenes look at a rehearsal with the amazing dancer Rukmini Vijayakumar. This is where the magic begins, collaborating in the studio to align the rhythmic patterns and melody with the movement.
Rehearsal time with the team before a show at the Mukteshwara temple. Even in a hotel room, we practice the jathis and konnakol to make sure every beat is perfect for the live performance.
About Music for Dance Productions
When I compose for a dance performance, my process focuses heavily on rhythm. I start by mapping out the jathis and konnakol patterns—the heartbeat of the dance—before layering the melody. Whether we are in the studio or preparing for a live temple festival, I work directly with the dancer to ensure the musical cues land exactly when the footwork does. It is a live collaboration where the music is tailored to your energy and style, not just recorded to a metronome.
Creating music for classical dance is not just about having a melody; it is about knowing the language of movement. My approach to a full Margam production starts with understanding your specific choreography style. I handle the Raga and Tala structures, composing the rhythmic cycles that define the performance.
I bring in local session artists—mridangam, flute, and violin players—to build an authentic live ensemble. We don't just rely on software; we record these sessions in my Bengaluru studio to capture the raw energy of live instruments. I also handle the final sound engineering, ensuring the audio is balanced for large stage systems, whether you are performing in a theatre or an outdoor venue.
I have collaborated with artists like Rukmini Vijayakumar to create 80 minutes of performance material in just four days, so I am comfortable working with tight deadlines. If you are preparing for an Arangetram or a new stage production, I am here to help build a score that feels like it belongs to your performance. We start by discussing your concept, then move to rhythmic composition, vocal tracking, and finally, the full arrangement.
