Advanced Yoga Inversions and Arm Balances in Mumbai
Advanced asanas like handstands and headstands are not about achieving perfection, but about the consistent journey of your practice. Let us build your strength, focus, and stability together.
A quiet moment holding a handstand. The clean lines of this walkway create a frame for the pose, emphasizing the stillness and control required for Adho Mukha Vrksasana.
This is a dynamic handstand practice in the studio, moving from a squat into a controlled handstand with leg variations. This kind of flow builds incredible core control and body awareness.
A handstand practice on a rooftop against the clear sky. Inversions require you to trust your body and your strength, and practicing them outdoors adds an element of freedom.
This flow demonstrates the transition into Astavakrasana, or Eight-Angle Pose, an arm balance that also involves a deep twist. It’s a perfect example of how strength and flexibility work together in Vinyasa yoga.
Practicing Sirsasana, or headstand, in a park. The uneven ground of the grass adds a small challenge, forcing greater engagement of the core to maintain balance.
This video shows the transition from a headstand to Pincha Mayurasana, or forearm stand. Moving between different inversions is a great way to challenge your stability and build endurance in the shoulders and back.

This clip shows a handstand press, lifting the legs up with control rather than kicking. It is a testament to the core strength that a consistent yoga practice develops over time.
A short flow in the park that moves from Sun Salutation elements into a handstand. Integrating inversions into a flowing sequence makes the practice feel more like a dance.
About Advanced Practice: Inversions & Arm Balances
Getting into a handstand or headstand is not about brute force, but about stacking your bones and finding the true balance point. In my private training sessions, I do not just tell you what to do. I physically spot your alignment so your body learns exactly how it feels to be stable, removing the fear of falling so you can finally trust your own strength.
Advanced practice is often misunderstood. Many students arrive at the mat assuming that inversions like Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand) or Sirsasana (headstand) are only for those with years of experience. My approach is different. We break down the fear that blocks you, whether it is physical stiffness or the mental hesitation of being upside down.
The Anatomy of an Inversion
When we work on arm balances, we are not just strengthening the shoulders. We are learning to engage the core and find the stillness of the mind amidst the physical challenge. In my Hatha Vinyasa sessions across Mumbai, we move through sequences that prepare the wrists, shoulders, and back for these poses. It is a process of refinement, not aggression.
Why Practice with a Guide?
If you have been practicing at home and feel stuck, it is usually because you are missing a small detail in your alignment. Whether you come to Tangerine Arts Studio in Bandra or I visit you for a home session, my role is to provide that manual adjustment. A tiny shift in the pelvis or a different gaze (drishti) can make a pose that seemed impossible feel light and accessible.
My Approach to Your Abhyas
We integrate breathwork (pranayama) into every sequence, ensuring that you do not hold tension while you hold the pose. We practice at your pace. We use walls for support until you have the confidence to move into the center of the room. Most importantly, we leave the ego outside. If you fall out of a pose, we laugh, breathe, and begin again. That is the essence of yoga—it is not about the shape; it is about showing up to the mat, time after time, until the practice becomes a natural part of who you are.
